POLICY FOR WASTE MANAGEMENT AND

HOUSEKEEPING

Purpose

To provide instructions for effective and appropriate disposal of all waste matter and
housekeeping.

Objective

To eliminate vermin odors and maintain facility sanitation.

PROCEDURE:

1. All biodegradable waste is separated from non-biodegradable waste.


2. All biodegradable waste like food, paper, tissues etc. is separated and place in
a black bag which are being collected everyday by the Municipal Garbage
collector. The trash is located at the back of the structure.
3. Maintenance staff collects all trash recyclables like empty alcohol container,
bottled juice and bottled plastic soda.
4. The recyclable plastics are used for disposal of infectious waste such as
lancets, syringes and other infectious waste spillage and contamination to
others. These are being collected by the licensed Waste Management Division
– CLEANHAUL.
5. All non-biodegradable waste is collected every Thursday by the Municipal
Waste Management.

I. RECYCLING
Each area has its own recycling bins for recyclables and there are also central
plastic recycling bins located throughout the facility. Maintenance staff brings the
recyclables to the recycling area and place in designated carts for pick- up by contract
vendor.

A. INFECTIOUS WASTE
 Designated health services staff contaminated sharps and used
needle to designated area in loading dock back locked storage
vendor picks it up.
 Complex security staff bring infectious waste lines in yellow
waste bag to loading dock corridor housekeeping staff then
place the yellow in the outgoing laundry bins for cleaning by
CLEANHAUL (Waste Management Division)

B. FOOD WASTE
 Bulk food waste is dumped in large containers that are
brought to the recycling area from the kitchen. Then
contact vendor picks up from recycling area after the truck
gate officer has searched each container.
