Pretend you are a project manager employed by a General Contracting firm. Your company is currently
serving as a Construction Manager at Risk for a project and is requiring all vendors, material suppliers,
and subcontractors to submit digital design files. Provide 4 strategies you may implement to facilitate
interoperability issues. Provide detailed descriptions of each strategy (5pts each) and explain why.
1. The first measure I would implement to avoid this problem is to request files from the same
software that my company uses. For example, if we are using Chief Architect PLAN files, it
would be given priority. Not all companies would be using this application so you would need to
be able to receive a larger amount of data, so we need other options for us to increase our
competitive advantage

2. The next Implementation strategy is to select a software platform that can easily transfer files
from each other for example, Revit and Sketch-up by doing this all files can be transferred
without a hitch. This means that more applications that can be used that you can easily access the
files on the platform that you use. Regardless, this still limits you because they are hundreds of
BIM applications so you will need a platform that every company can have access to.

3. The most common application would be a PDF format all the programs can produce a PDF
output and every computer should have a platform to open PDFs. There is a disadvantage to this
because you are limited to the information that the contractor provides

4. The fourth regulation that would ensure that you get the best information is a list of regulations
that you provide for PDF formats which will include your requirements for the project that would
ensure the quality that you want to present
