(a) With the sanction of the Corporation, determine the name by which any
street shall be known:-
(b) Cause to be put up or painted on a conspicuous part of any house at or near
each end, corner or entrance to every street the name so determined;
(c) With the sanction of the Corporation determine the number by which any
premises shall be known;
(d) By written notice require the owner of any premises either to put or paint
or number on such premises in such position and manner as may be
specified in such notice, or to signify in writing his desire that the work
shall be executed under the orders of the Commissioner.
(3) Where a number is put up or painted on any premises under the orders of the
Commissioner in accordance with clause (d) of sub-section (1), the expenses
of such work shall be payable by the owner of the premises:
Provided that the maximum rate of charge for such work shall be fixed by the
Commissioner with the previous sanction of the Corporation.
(4) There shall be a separate cell for House Numbering and GIS in the Municipal
Corporation headed by a Town Planning Officer.
1. The Council shall give names to all public streets and may, with the approval
of the Government, alter the name of any public street.
2. The Municipal Engineer or where there is no Municipal Engineer, the
Commissioner shall cause to be put up or painted in English and in the main
language of the district on a conspicuous part of some buildings wall or place,
at or near each end, corner or turning the name of every public street.
3. No person shall, without lawful authority, destroy, pull down, or deface any
such name or put up any name different from that put up by order of the said
officer.

(1) All the streets in each locality of a ward shall be numbered in one
series according to geographical location with reference to city centre.
(3) (1) Wherever streets are not named after persons or features, they shall
be named as Street.No:1,2,3 and likewise with the name of the locality.
Provided, where the streets have no approved names but are known by
names through long local usage, it shall be competent for the
Commissioners to adopt such local name for the purpose of naming of
the streets.
(4) Street nearest to city centre in each locality in a ward shall be assigned
the number one.
(5) The street numbers shall be assigned by the Town Planning wing of
Municipal Corporation/Municipality at the time of approval of the
layout together with the name of the locality and no person or group of
persons or institution shall adopt any existing name without specific
approval of the Commissioner for newly coming up colonies or
settlements of the Municipal Corporation/Municipality.
(6) The House Number shall also be assigned by the Town Planning wing
of the Municipal/Municipality at the time of approval of building
plans.
(3) The houses on roads (sub-arterial, arterial, ring road, main road and
national highway) shall be numbered in one continuous series
throughout the length of the road irrespective of the fact that the
road runs through more than one ward/locality.
(2) No change of name shall be allowed once the names are documented,
except with the prior approval of the Government.

3. Numbering and Naming Streets:- (1) All the streets in each ward shall be
numbered in one series according to geographical location and all the streets in the
Corporation shall not be numbered in one series.
(2) For the purpose of numbering of the streets each street having a distinct
name shall be treated as separate street and only one number shall be assigned even it
cuts across many wards/localities.
(3) In case of a street bearing the same name but not continuous, each position
of such street shall be treated as separate and be given consecutive serial numbers
after the name of the street.
(4) (1) Wherever streets are not named after persons or features, they shall be
named as first main road or second road and likewise with the name of the locality.
Provided, where the streets have no approved names but are known by names
through long local usage, it shall be competent for the Commissioner to adopt such
local name for the purpose of naming of the streets.
5. The longest road or street in each ward shall be assigned the number one.
(2) The assignment of numbers to the vacant lands shall be with reference to
the ownership as far as possible.
(3) The houses on long streets and National highways shall be numbered in
one continuous series throughout the length of the street irrespective of the fact that
the street on National Highways run through more than one ward.
Provided that huts and thatched sheds which come up on regular basis and
likely to continue for long periods shall be numbered and house numbers shall be
displayed using a metallic board on the house.
Provided further that huts and other semi-permanent structures coming upon
hill tops and other vacant places in a zig-zag manner shall also be numbered on the
basis of their location i.e., (North, South, East, West) to a distinct landmark existing
on the site or by using the temporarily assumed name of the locality.
(2) No change of name shall be allowed once the names are documented as
above, except with the prior approval of the Government.
