 Students will understand key events that took place during Thomas Jefferson and James
Madison’s presidencies.
Objectives  Students will be able to work together in small groups to complete tasks based on multimodal SEL Day with Ms. Min
stations.

 8.2.7 Describe the principles of federalism, dual sovereignty, separation of powers, checks and
balances, the nature of purpose of the majority rule, and the ways in which the American idea of
constitutionalism preserves individual rights.

during the terms of the first four presidents.

Students will create vocab squares select terms and at specific stations. Vocab squares have 4
sections, with the top left one asking for the definition, top right for characteristics associated with
the term, bottom left is a drawing, and the bottom right asks students to write one sentence using
the term. Many of the terms will be looked at during their reading of the textbook and in the
questions they must answer.

Students are given a brief lecture on who Jefferson was and the course that he took as president.
Also, I will talk about the influence of the Democratic-Republican party, which was led by Jefferson

himself. Students will follow along with their guided notes and fill out any blanks that they see.

At each station is a QR code that links to a Google Slides slideshow. Each slideshow has specific
instructions to the station, some are based on the textbook reading, others have questions on

videos, and others are based on the student’s own experiences and thoughts.

Students will rotate every 10 minutes to the next station, this will give them a chance to move
around and physically transition to a new topic. When they get to each station, they will use their
Student Engagement iPads to scan the QR code, then they will follow the instructions on the slideshow and use the SEL Day with Ms. Min
appropriate material to answer any questions or complete any tasks.

Students will review the answers and ensure that they have all the correct information on their own

Students have a packet that they take around as they go through the stations. The packet will show
me what areas were difficult for students and can give me an idea on how to reteach if needed.
