LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE V

I. OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to;

1. identify the materials to create a simple electromagnetism,

2. illustrate how electromagnet works, and
3. point out the importance of electromagnet in their daily lives.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

a. Topic:
Electromagnetism
b. References:
Science 5, p.g. 157-159

c. Instructional Materials:
Pictures and PowerPoint presentation

III. LEARNING ACTIVITIES:

Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activities

“Good morning class” “Good morning, ma’am”

a. Prayer

“Let us all stand up and let us pray.” Someone will lead the prayer

b. Checking the attendance

“Who is absent for today?” “No one is absent for today ma’am”
“Very good!”

“Give yourself three claps”

B. Review/Drill of the past

lesson

“Before we proceed to our next “Ma’am, our previous lesson is all the
topic, what is our previous lesson two types of circuit”
again?”

“Very good!”

“What are the two types of “Ma’am, the two types of circuit are
Circuit?” the series circuit and the parallel
circuit”

“Very good!”

C. Lesson proper

“Our lesson for today is about

electromagnetism.

Before we begin, I have some

pictures here and will you say
what it is?

What do you see in the picture?

In the next picture, what is it? A picture of a battery Ma’am.

Very good.
And for the last picture what do
I see a magnet.
you see?

Very good.

Very good.

Those pictures are the things we

need to create an
electromagnetism.

Okay Let’s read the definition of

a Simple Electromagnet.

A Simple Electromagnet

Electricity is closely related to

each other. Electricity can
produce magnets while magnets
can produce electricity.
(The students read the definition)
A magnet is usually made of
iron. It can attract objects such
us pin, coins, and other
materials made of iron and steel.
A nail is not a magnet, but it can
be turn into one. This can be
done by coiling a wire around it
and then letting electricity flow
through it doing this it turns the
nail into an electromagnet.

Does magnet can produce Yes, magnet can produce electricity,

electricity? and electricity can produce
magnets.
Very good.
They are work both ways.

Will you give me some things Ma’am pins, coins, and other
that magnet can attract? materials that is make of iron or
steel.
Very good.

To make an electromagnet what Ma’am, a nail, wire and a battery.

do we need?

Very good.

This is what a simple

electromagnet looks like.

What do you see in the picture? Ma’am there is a battery, a nail, and
a wire on it.
Very good.
Electromagnets are temporary
magnets. When electricity stops
flowing through a coil wires, the
nail stops attracting any metal or
magnetic material.

Electromagnet are just what? Ma’am they are just temporary.

Very good.

What produces electricity? The battery produces electricity.

What happened if the wire stops If the wire stops connecting to the
connecting to the battery? battery, the flow of the electricity
will also stop.
Very good.

Let’s read “How to Make an

Electromagnet Stronger”

An electromagnet can be made

stronger by using more coils of
wire. Each turn of the wire adds
more force to the
electromagnet. (The students read the definition)

The number of dry cells also

affects the strength of an
electromagnet. More dry cells
mean more electrons flowing in
the electromagnet and
therefore, stronger magnetism is
produced.

The size of the iron core also

matters. The greater the size of
the iron core, the stronger
magnetism an electromagnet
has.

How to make an electromagnet To make an electromagnet stronger

stronger? by adding more coils of wires.

Very good.
What happened if there is drier More dry cells mean more electrons
cell in the electromagnet? flowing in the electromagnet and
therefore, stronger magnetism is
Very good. produced.

Does the size of the iron core Yes, because the greater the
matters? size of the iron core, the
stronger magnetism an
electromagnet has.

Very good.

Let’s read the “Uses of

Electromagnets”

many appliances, modern

gadgets, and even toys are
made of electromagnets.

Electromagnets are used in

transmitting signals through (The students read the definition)
telephones, radio, and television.

Commercial establishments
make use of generators,
transformers, and motors which
are made of electromagnets.
A crane that lifts heavy objects
is also made of electromagnets.

Now, my question is do we use Yes ma’am.

electromagnets?

How come we used

electromagnets? Ma’am because of the gadgets we
use.
Very good.

What are the gadgets that have Ma’am like the television, radio,
electromagnets? cellphones and many more.

Very good.
D. GENERALIZATION

Okay class let’s take a recap

Again, what is our lesson all “Ma’am, our lesson for today is all
about? about electromagnetism.

What are the materials needed to

make a simple electromagnetism. Ma’am we need, a battery, a coil of
wire and nail.

Very good.

“All students clap their hands ten

“Now give yourselves 10 claps” times”

IV. Evaluation

Direction: Write the word True if the statement is correct, false if it’s wrong.

1. an electromagnet may be produced by making electricity flow through a coil of wire

wound around an iron nail.

2. when electricity stops flowing through a coil wire, the nail continues attracting any
metal or magnetic material.

3. an electromagnet can be made stronger by using less coils of wire.

4. the number of dry cells used affects the magnetism of an electromagnet. More dry
cells mean more magnetism.

5. electromagnets are permanent magnets that can attract any metal or magnetic
material.
V. Assignment/Agreement
Direction: Name the different parts of a simple electromagnet.
