students!

Are you ready for today’s Yes, teacher!

lesson?

3. Checking of Attendance

Is anyone absent today? No one, teacher.

Very good.

4. Classroom Management

Before we start, can you please Yes, teacher!

you or under your seats, and
can you please pick it up and put
it in your bag.

to follow. First, listen attentively
in our discussion today. Second,
always raise your hand if you
want to answer and ask
questions. Do you understand?

6. Review
Let us have a short review about Yesterday, we tackled about the
our lesson yesterday. What is our materials that are conductors of heat
last topic all about? and electricity.

Very good!

And what do we mean by Conductor is a material that allows the

conductor? flow of electrical current or heat.
Correct!

Will you give an example of Some examples of metals that are

conductor? good conductors are aluminum, silver,
and steel.

Yes, indeed!

So, How do heat and electricity

flow through metals? It is when they move through tiny
particles called atoms.

Precisely!

Good job, class. It seems that

you’ve learned a lot from our
lesson last meeting.

7. Motivation

To start our lesson, I want you to

take a look at these pictures.
(Present pictures of people using
electricity)

What do you see in the pictures? The first picture is a family watching
TV. The second picture is a man using
a computer. And The third picture is a
girl ironing clothes.

Indeed!

What do you notice about the Yes, teacher. All the pictures show
picture? Is there a similarity how they are using devices powered
among the three? by electricity.

Yes, exactly. Have you An electrical current is produced

produced? conductor, such as wire, teacher.
Yes, very good!

How does electricity reach our Through distribution, lines go out to

homes, school, offices, and other the streets to carry the electricity to
establishments? different places where the consumers
are located teacher.

Yes, correct!

B. Presentation of the Lesson

Base from the pictures that

you’ve observed, does anyone of
you have an idea about our
lesson for today?

Yes, (name of students). (Students’ answers may vary.)

C. Development of the Lesson

Our lesson for today is all about

“How Does Electricity Flow in a
Circuit?”
But Before we proceed to that,
let’s define first what is
electricity. Do you have any idea Electricity is the flow of electrical
what is electricity? power or charge, teacher.

Yes, correct! Any more idea (Students’ answers may vary.)

about electricity?

Everybody’s daily existence has

been greatly affected by
electricity, and electricity is a
necessity for us humans.

Class can you give reasons why (Students’ answers may vary.)
electricity is important to us?

Very good!

Can you state devices in your Television, iron, computer, laptop.

homes that use electricity? Phones, electric fan, and many more.

Correct!

So, Let’s plug an electric fan When an electric fan is plugged into
then switch it on. What do you an outlet, circuit is completed and
observe? electrical energy is provided to the fan
motor.

Yes, it is!

You will not see this but

electrons move from one atom to
another. This continuous
movement of electrons produces
electric current. This happens to
all objects that use electricity.
Electricity requires moving
electric charges. It is generated
by a source of electrical energy.

Can you give an example of Battery, generator, or solar energy,

electrical energy? teacher.

Very good!

And An electricity that is

moving through a wire or any
conductor and back to its starting
point is called electric current.
Electric current flows through a
closed, continuous path called a
circuit. In a circuit, the electrons,
or the negatively charged
particles, can move through
wires.

An electric circuit is a
continuous path over which
electrons move. And a simple
electric circuit consists of the
following components:

a. Source
b. Load or Device
c. Conductors
d. Switch

(Present a picture of a simple

circuit to light a bulb.)

Class what do we mean by the The source serves as the energy

the source that allow our devices
to do work?

Yes!

The source has two connections: Yes, teacher!

the current source (negative
terminal) and the returning path
(positive terminal. Did you
understand class?

Next is the load or device. It is The load or device is the bulb,

an electrical appliance that teacher.
converts the electrical energy to
other useful forms. So, Class,
based on the picture what is the
load or device?
Precisely!

Third is the conductors. When

we say conductors, these are? These are materials through which
electrons flow easily teacher.
And what are the examples of
conductors that you know? Copper wires, aluminum, iron, silver,
and many more.
Very good!

The last one is the switch.

Switch allows control over the
current flow.

So, Class, did you understand

the following components of a Yes, teacher!
simple electric circuit?

Now, let’s tackle about the

closed and open circuit.
Remember class that a circuit
will only work when it is
complete.

(Present a picture of a closed

circuit.)

This is an example of a closed Teacher, all the parts of the circuit is

circuit. What do you observe in connected.
the picture?

Yes, because in a closed circuit,

the electrons move from the
battery to the bulb and back to
the source through copper wires.
All the parts of the circuit are
connected in order for the bulb
to light up.

So, Class, what happens if one of Teacher, the circuit is broken.

the parts of the circuit is
disconnected?

Correct!

This is what we called an open

circuit. Electric current will not
flow through an open circuit.
(Present an example picture of
open circuit.)

So, Class, did you understand Yes, teacher!

now what is open and closed
circuit?

Very good! So, Class there are

two kinds of electric circuits.
The series and parallel circuit.

What comes in your mind when It is a sequence, teacher.

you heard hear the word series?

Yes, and a series circuit is a

circuit in which the electric
current flows through a single
pathway. Also, the components
in a series circuit are arranged in
a straight line.

So, What will happen if one of The entire circuit will burn out,
the components break down? teacher.

Indeed!

Here are examples of series

circuits. (Presents an example
picture of different series
circuits.)

Can you give an example of Christmas lights, teacher.

things you know that
components are connected
through series connection?

Very good!

While a parallel circuit connects

devices or appliances along
branches pathways. Unlike the
series circuit that the electric
current just flows through a
single pathway that may results
of entire circuit burn out if one of
the components break down, the
parallel circuit provides separate
path allowing the electrons to
flow so that the other
components of the circuit will
still function even if one
component break down.
(Present an examples pictures of
parallel circuit.)

Did you understand now class Yes, teacher!

the difference between series and
parallel circuit?

Very good!

Now, class, remember that the

amount of electrical energy that
flows through a simple circuit
determines the brightness of a
bulb.

So, What is the effect of It will cause an increase or decrease

changing the number or type of the amount of electric current flowing
components of a circuit? through the circuit, teacher.

Indeed!
First is the number of bulbs. If Teacher, because the electrical energy
you add more bulbs, the light will be reduced.
bulbs will grow dimmer. And
what do you think is the reason
of this?

Correct!

Second is the number of dry The bulbs could burn out, teacher.
cells. If you add more cells the
bulbs will glow brighter.
However, what will happen if
you add too many cells?

Precisely!

Third is the thickness or size of It is because current has to travel a

the wire. Thick wire makes the longer distance so the amount of
bulb glow brighter while thin electrical energy decreases.
wire makes the bulb glow
dimmer. Fourth is the length of
the wire. The shorter the wire,
the brighter the bulb glows. The
longer the wire, the dimmer the
bulb glow. What makes it
dimmer if we use longer wire?

Yes, very good! ,

Yes, teacher!
Lastly is the arrangement of the
bulbs. If the bulbs are connected
in a parallel circuit, the bulbs
will burn up brighter. When the
bulbs are connected in series,
they will get dimmer. Did you
understand, class?

Very good!
D. Generalization
