The initial management of acute severe UC is a high dose of IV steroids, we need the drug to act
quickly.

IV corticosteroid: to manage inflammation and induce remission. All of the medication will be
absorbed.

Hydrocortisone 100mg TDS or QDS should replace prednisolone

Mesalazine can be used for mild to moderate flare ups, not likely to be absorbed.

 Pain Relief options include paracetamol, but liver function needs to be checked.
