Sorrows Underneath

Zihanna Rahman

Zihanna Rahman was seventeen years old when she wrote this poem. As a teenager she was
very lonely and this led to depression. In this poem Zihanna talks about how she felt and what
her thoughts were. Sorrows Underneath is a poem about mental instability and loneliness that
a teenager feels.

Zihanna thought about all her problems, pains and sorrows. She could not think about any
other happy thoughts. She was always focused on pain and problems of life. Thinking only
about problems and pain made her go insane. She hid her sadness with a smile. No one
noticed that she was going through so much of sorrows.

On her face she always wore a smile but she was unhappy inside. She was crying inside. She
wanted to share her problems with someone but she could not. She started to feel distant from
her friends. Her sadness was much stronger and powerful than the happiness that she was
looking for.

Zihanna realized that she has lost her hopes and dreams. It was as if she was walking down a
dead end road, singing a tuneless song. She could not understand why she was alive and she
stopped enjoying things in life. She decided to end her life. She stood on the rooftop and she
could see cars beneath her. She was scared of heights but still she was standing on the
rooftop. She thought for some time and knew that what she was going to do was not right.

Zihanna decided that she should find a way to beat her depression. She is hopeful that may be
she will be able to overcome these feelings. She believes that there might be someone to help
her. Someone might listen to her and help her out. She is seeing through the darkness and has
started to trust a few people. She wants to overcome her depression so that she can help many
others like her.
