CUCUMBER MAS AND GIANTS

Once upon in a village in Central Java, there lives a middle-aged widow named Mbok Srini.
Because of her loneliness, she really hoped for the presence of a child, but unfortunately that hope was
dashed because her husband had passed away. Every day he relentlessly Mbok Srini always prayed
that a child could be given to accompany his life.

One day, a green giant (buto ijo) who happened to pass by heard Mbok Srini's prayer. With his
booming voice, the giant asked,

(ADIT) "Hey old lady! Do you really want a child?" Mbok Srini was surprised. Trembling, he
replied

(MASEP) "I yearn for a child who can accompany me. But it seems impossible given my old
age, and my husband has also died."

(ADIT) "Ha... Ha... Ha... I can grant your wish easily, but of course there are conditions. Are you
willing?" asked the giant.

(MASEP) "Well, I do," Mbok Srini replied, even though she was afraid to see a big, spooky giant
figure.

(ADIT) "Take care of the child I gave you later. Feed him the ones so that they are fat. I'll pick
him up when he's 6 years old," the giant said thunderously.

There was no other option, Mbok Srini accepted the condition. The giant gave him a handful of
cucumber seeds for planting. Mbok Srini also followed the giant's advice to plant the cucumber seeds
he got. The seeds sprouted and bear fruit in a short time, in just a few days the mentium tree grew
with its very large fruits ready for harvesting.

How surprised Mbok Srini was when she was picking one of the cucumbers, in front of her was
a beautiful baby girl. The baby was named Timun Mas, because he was born from a golden-colored
cucumber. Some time later the giants returned to the residence of Mbok Srini and Timun Mas. At that
time, 6-year-old Timun Mas was about to be eaten by the giant. Not losing his mind, Mbok Srini also
looked for a way to save Timun Mas from becoming a giant meal.

(MASEP) "Forbearance, I'll leave it to you, but do you want to? His body is small and thin, I
don't think he is delicious enough for you to eat," mbok Srini said.

(MASEP) "He's gone. Trust me, come back in two years, I guarantee that he is fat," Mbok Srini
replied. The giant believed in the words of Mbok Srini.

(ADIT) "Two years is not a long time," he thought.

After the death of the giant, Mbok Srini finds his wits to save Timun Mas. He also prayed that
God would give him a way out. One night, God answered his prayer. Mbok Srini dreams of meeting a
hermit on the mountain. The hermit told Timun Mas to meet him. He will help Timun Mas.

After many days of climbing, Timun Mas finally reached the top of the mountain. He saw an
old grandmother with white hair and a white robe.
(VERDIA) "Excuse me, Nek. My name is Timun Mas. My mother said, Grandma will help me
fight the evil giant who wants to eat me," Timun Mas greeted.

(DEWI) "Oh, you're the one named Timun Mas? Yes, I did come to your mother through a
dream. My grandson, if the giant comes back, run fast," the hermit ordered.

(VERDIA) "The footsteps are wide, I must be easy to catch," Timun Mas said in surprise.

(DEWI) "Take these four small packages. Throw them one by one when you run away," the
hermit replied firmly.

Two years passed. It's time for the giants to come back to pick up Timun Mas. Sure enough,
suddenly there were thunderous footsteps and shouts,

(ADIT) "Mbok Srini! Where is your son? I'm already hungry!" he shouted.

(MASEP) "Please, don't eat him," Mbok Srini said.

(ADIT) "It's delicious. You have promised, you must not break it!" replied the giant. Forced,
Mbok Srini took Timun Mas to meet the giant.

(SELI) Timun Mas whispered to her, "Don't worry, Mom."

Timun Mas immediately opened the package given by the hermit's grandmother. The first pack,
it turned out to contain cucumber seeds. It throws it towards the giants. A miracle ensued. Those
cucumber seeds turned into cucumber fields with very many fruits. The giant step was restrained by the
cucumber field. With great difficulty he had to pass through obstacles and tree trunks that surrounded
his body. However, he managed to escape. He grew angrier.

Then the second package contained a needle. Cucumber Mas threw the needles. The needles
turned into tall , densely leafy bamboo trees. The giants have to work hard to break through those
bamboo trees. Timun Mas opened the third package. As he continued to run, he tossed the contents
of the package, which was salt. Again a miracle happened. The salt turned into a vast ocean.

However, the ocean is not a barrier for giants. It swam across that ocean, and made it to the
edge. The giant began to get tired, but considering the delicious meat of Timun Mas, he was excited to
run again. Timun Mas was frightened to see the power of the giant. The final pack is the only hope.
While praying, Timun Mas opened the fourth package. The contents are shrimp paste.

With all his might, Timun Mas threw the paste towards the giant. What happened? The paste
turned into a sea of boiling hot mud. The galloping giant couldn't stop his footsteps. He was mired in
the mud. He cried out and struggled( ADIT : AAAAA HELP ME AAA) . But the more he struggled, the
deeper the mud sucked his body. It eventually sank into the hot mud.

Timun Mas stopped his footsteps. He was relieved that he managed to save himself. Exhausted
he walked home to his home. Mbok Srini, who kept crying after Timun Mas's death, was very happy to
see her daughter's return. They embraced and thanked God for His help. Since then, Mbok Srini has
lived happily with Timun Mas.
