TEACHER’S NOTES
Aim: To raise awareness of the achievements and contributions of some women
inventors and the impact they have had on our daily lives.
Level: Primary 6/ESO 1-2
Key language: Coffee filter, water heater, chocolate chip cookie, windshield wiper,
Kevlar*
*Kevlar is a very strong material used in shoe laces, rope, canoes, protective clothing for motorcyclists,
bullet proof vests and even buildings such as the Olympic Stadium of Montreal.
Materials:

• Powerpoint of key vocabulary

Instructions:
Part 1
a) Do you know of any inventors? What did they invent? How many of the inventors on your list
are women?
1. Write these questions on the board and discuss them with your class. Do you know of any inventors?
What did they invent? How many of inventors on your list are women?
2. Use the Powerpoint to present the key vocabulary, eliciting any words your students may already
know.
3. Give out the worksheet and ask students to match the pictures and words in Part 1.
Part 2
Watch the video (00.00-01.45) and ask students to work in pairs. One student should make a note of
the inventions that are mentioned in the video and the other student should focus on who made the
inventions.
Part 3
Ask students to complete the activity in Part 3 on the worksheet.
