Good afternoon class! Good afternoon, Ma'am!!

Before anything else, how are you class? (Students will response)

That is good to hear! So let us now start with our

discussion.

Review

So, last meeting ___________ and ________ (Students will response)

discussed about __________, right?

Before we proceed to our discussion, let us first do a

recap about the topic that was discussed last meeting.
Anyone from the class, can you tell me what have (Students are raising their hands)
you learned from the last lesson?

(The student will stand up and share about

Yes Mr/Ms. Dela Cruz? what he/she learned in the previous lesson)

Okay, very good! It seems like you really did listen

to our discussion last meeting. I hope that all of you
will also pay attention to our discussion today just
like what you have done on the previous lessons.

Motivation

But before we start with our discussion, I would like

to ask some questions first. (Students are raising their hands)

Do you feel motivated right now? Who or what (The student will share his/her idea)
motivates you?

Yes! Ms. Rodriguez?

Very good! (Students are raising their hands)

Do you think that we differ in things that makes us (The student will share his/her idea)
motivated?

Yes! Ms. Regulacion?

Very well said!

Presentation

Today we will be tackling Students diversity in

Motivation, the factors that affect motivation and the
two principles that influence Motivation. And at the
end of our lesson, you will be able to: (1) Recognize
and understand how factors affect students’
motivation, (2) Appreciate the student’s diversity in
motivation, and (3) Explain the influence of
principles in diversity of student’s motivation.
Activity

But before we proceed to our discussion let us have

an activity first.

The class will be divided into 2 groups, each group

will pick 10 representatives. We will play Message
Relay. Are you familiar with it? Okay so, here’s the
mechanics. I will give 10 seconds to the person at the
front to memorize the sentence that you need to
(The students will collaborate with their
relay. Then, she/he will whisper it to the person
group mates to be able to perform the task
behind her/him. You will repeat the procedure until it
that is given.)
reaches the last person in the line, who then write the
message on a sheet of paper. The group that finishes (The students will respond)
first with the most accurate output wins the game.

Okay, are you all ready?

Analysis

How was your activity, did you learn something from

it?

Class, do you think that students differ from each

other when it comes to the things that motivates
them? Why?

What do you think are the factors that makes students (The student will respond to the given
different from each other when it comes to questions)
motivation?

Why do you think these factors make students

different when it comes to motivation?

Abstraction

Today we will be tackling Students diversity in (Students are raising their hands)
motivation, the factors that affect motivation and the
two principles that influence motivation. (The student will share his/her idea)

Let us first define diversity and motivation. So, what

is diversity and motivation?
Yes! Mr. Valen?

Very good!

DIVERSITY is the quality or state of having

different forms, types, ideas, etc.

MOTIVATION is defined as the process that

initiates, guides, and maintains goal-oriented
behaviors.

Students who, by themselves are already as diverse,

also differ in motivation. This diversity in motivation
may be traced to differences in age, developmental
stage, gender, socio-economic and cultural
background. How these factors influence students’
motivation is the focal point of our discussion today.

Students’ motivation may vary on account of age, (The student will respond to the given
gender, cultural background, socioeconomic questions)
background and special education needs.

Why do you think that we differ in motivation

because of our age?

According to (Juvonen and Weiner, 1993 quoted by

Ormrod, 2004) Young children often want to gain
teachers approval to be motivated while the older
ones are typically more interested in gaining the
approval of peers.
(The student will respond to the given
As we age, its harder to have a get-up-and-go attitude
questions)
towards things. As people age, they often lose their
motivation on things or engage in activities.

Why do you think that we differ in motivation

because of our gender?

According to (Block, 1983 quoted by Ormrod, p.508)

Females are more likely than males to have a high
need of affiliation. Females are also more concerned
about doing well in school. They work harder on
assignments, earn higher grades and are more likely
to graduate from high school. (Halpern, 1992; (The student will respond to the given
McCall, 1994 quoted by Ormrod, 2004) questions)

Men and women differ in their perceptions of what is

important and what motivates them.

Why do you think that we differ in motivation

because of our cultural background?

According to (Lillard, 1997; Peak, 1993 quoted by

Ormrod, 2004) Students cultural background can
influence their attributions. For instance, students of
Asian background are more likely to attribute
(The student will respond to the given
academic achievement to unstable factors like effort
questions)
and attribute appropriate or inappropriate behaviors
to situational factors than students brought up in
mainstream Western culture.

Why do you think that we differ in motivation

because of our socioeconomic background?

Students from low-income families are among those

most likely to be at risk of failing and dropping out of (The student will respond to the given
school. A pattern of failure may start quite early for questions)
many lower-income students especially if they have
not had the early experiences upon which school
learning often builds.

Why do you think that we differ in motivation

because of our special education needs?

Students with special educational needs show the

greatest diversity in motivation. Some students who
are gifted may have high intrinsic motivation to learn
classroom subject matter, yet they may become easily
bored if class activities don’t challenge their abilities.
(Friedel, 1993; Turnbull et al, 1999 quoted by
Ormrod, 2004)

Our students’ motivational drives reflect the elements

of the culture in which they grow up – their family,
their friends, school, church, and books. To motivate
all of them for learning, it is best to employ
differentiated approaches.

Two principles to consider regarding social and

cultural influences on motivation are:

1. Students are most likely to model the (The student will respond to the given
behaviors they believe are relevant to their questions)
situation.
2. Students develop greater efficacy for a task
when they see others like themselves
performing the task successfully. (Ormrod
2004)
(Students will respond)
What conclusion can you derived from two
principles?

(Student will explain his/her idea)

Application

Now class, again what are the factors that affect (Student will explain his/her idea)
motivation?
Very good!
Why do you think that it is important to know the
diversity of students when it comes to motivation?
Now, who can explain the influence of principles in
diversity of student’s motivation?
Very well said!
IV. Evaluation

Kindly keep your notebooks and phones and get a 1/2

sheet of paper and a ballpen and answer the
following questions.

1-5. Give the factors that affect students’ motivation.

6-10. As a future teacher, why do you think that it is

important to know the diversity of students when it
comes to motivation?

11-15. Explain the influence of principles in diversity

of student’s motivation.
