P PYTHAGORAS
1)-Pythagoras was born in Miletus, Greece, and spent his childhood near the
Milesian School, a group of philosophers seeking rational explanations for
natural phenomena.
-Pythagoras is said to have learned the rudiments of geometry during a trip to
Egypt.
-Pythagoras was deeply religious and superstitious, believing in reincarnation
and the transmigration of souls. He established a religious cult in Croton,
southern Italy, with himself as a virtual messiah.
-Pythagoras founded a community of around 300 people in Croton, southern
Italy, where they studied a mixture of mystical and academic studies.
-Growing hostility towards the Pythagorean cult eventually forced Pythagoras to
flee to Metapontum, also in southern Italy, where he died soon after.

2)The extract briefly mentions that Pythagoras is known for his contributions to
mathematics, specifically the Pythagorean theorem. The theorem states that in a
right triangle, the square of the length of the hypotenuse (the side opposite the
right angle) is equal to the sum of the squares of the lengths of the other two
sides.

3)Pythagoras was not only a philosopher and mathematician, but he was also a
deeply religious and superstitious man. He believed in reincarnation and the
transmigration of souls, and he established a religious cult with himself cast as a
virtual messiah, in Croton, southern Italy. His disciples lived in a collective
commune, following strict behavioral and dietary rules, while studying his
religious and philosophical theories. Pythagoras's beliefs, both mystical and
scientific, seem to be irreconcilable, but he did not see them as contradictory. For
him, the goal of life was freedom from the cycle of reincarnation, which could be
gained by adhering to a strict set of behavioral rules and by contemplation, or
objective scientific thinking.

4)Pythagoras also believed that mathematics was the key model for philosophical
thought. He found truths in geometry and mathematics that he regarded as self-
evident, as if god-given, and worked out mathematical proofs that had the impact
of divine revelation. He believed that everything in the universe conforms to
mathematical rules and ratios, and that if we understand number and
mathematical relationships, we come to understand the structure of the cosmos.
