Write the balanced chemical equation for the following reaction and identify the type of reaction.

1 .Nitrogen gas is treated with hydrogen gas in the presence of a catalyst at 773K to form ammonia gas.

A) chemical equation :

It is a combination reaction as two reactants are combining to form a single product.

2 . Sodium hydroxide solution is treated with acetic acid to form sodium acetate and water.

Equation:

The reaction type is double displacement reaction.

3 . Ethanol is warmed with ethanoic acid to form ethyl acetate in the presence of
concentrated H2SO4.

chemical equation:

C2H5OH (aq)+CH3COOH (aq)+−−→CH3COOC2H5(aq)+H2O(l)

It is an esterification reaction as an alcohol (ethyl

alcohol) is reacting with an acid (carboxylic acid) to
form ester (sweet smelling substance) and water.

4. Ethene is burnt in the presence of oxygen to form carbon dioxide

and water, and releases heat and light.
chemical equation
C2H4(g)+3O2(g)→2CO2(g)+2H2O(g)+Heat+Light

It is a combustion reaction as ethene is reacting with oxygen to give carbon

dioxide, water, heat, and light.

5. Thermite reaction- Iron (III) oxide reacts with Aluminum to give molten iron
and aluminum oxide.

 The reaction can be written as

This reaction is an example of a single displacement reaction.

6. Magnesium ribbon is burnt in an atmosphere of nitrogen gas to form solid magnesium nitride.
The equation can be written as:

3Mg(s)+N2(g)→Mg3N2(s)
Reaction of magnesium with nitrogen is a combination reaction as these two reactants ( Mg and N2) combine together to form a single product as magnesium
nitride (Mg3N2).
