Complex Engineering Problem

Problem Statement
In a microwave system, 4 major modules are important from generation of signal to transmission
of signal that are oscillator, modulator, amplifier and antenna. Each module have different
impedance within the system, therefore matching network is required for maximum power
transfer within the modules. Consider a case, where maximum power transfer is required from a
microstrip antenna of 50 Ω to solid state amplifier of 100 + 100j Ω at an operating frequency of
10 GHz.

Constraints
Microstrip transmission line must be used for matching network.

Requirements to Fulfill
1. Identify the type of matching network that must be added between the microstrip antenna
and solid state amplifier in order to achieve maximum power transfer. [C1, CLO-1, PLO-
1]
2. Design an appropriate matching network for wide bandwidth. [C5, CLO-3, PLO-3]
