HISTORY OF FOOTBALL

Football is a game in which two teams of 11 play against each other using any part of their body
except their hand to get the ball into the goal of the opposing team, only the goalkeeper is
permitted to use their hands in the penalty box.Football is the world’s most popular sport mostly
because of it’s simple rules and essential equipment along with the fact that it can be played
almost anywhere. The governing body of football is the Federation Of International Football
Association (FIFA).
Modern football originated in Britain in the 19th century, but it was played before the medieval
times, games of “folk football” were played in villages and towns according to local customs with
minimum rules used. Things like urbanization reduce the amount of leisure time of the working
class along with legal prohibitions against violent folk football undermined the status of the
game from the 19th century onwards.Football was then picked up as a game to play during
winter schools such as winchester,Charterhouse and Eton, each one of the schools had their own
rules some allowed handling of the ball while other did not. This made it hard for publics school
boys to continue playing when they moved on to university. Attempts by the university of
cambridge were made as early as1843 to standardize the rules of football, these rules were
called the cambridge rules and they were spread further by cambridge graduates who created a
club. In 1848 meetings involving clubs from metropolitan London and surrounding countries
produced the rules of football which prohibited the handling of the ball and the Football
Association (FA) was formed.
The new rules were not universally accepted around Britain; many clubs retained their own
rules. In 1866 sheffield and london clubs played two matches against each other then a year later
matches with clubs from Middlesex against cubs from Kent and Surrey wawa played under the
revised rules. In 1871 15 FA clubs accepted an invitation to a cup competition and contribution
were taken to purchase a trophy, this marked the official football cup competition help by the
FA,and by 1877 the association of great britain agreed upon an uniformed code.
HOW THE GAME IS PLAYED

Football is with set rules are known as the law of the game. The game is played using a spherical
ball called football, two teams of eleven players each compete against each other to get the ball
into the opposite team goal which is known as scoring a goal.At the end of the match which ever
team has the most goal win,if both team have the same score then the game is draw. Each team
has a captain who’s only official mandate is to toss the coin before kickoff.
The primary law is that any player other than the goalkeeper can’t handle the ball with their
hands during the game other than for a throw in. Although players move the ball using their feet
they could also use other parts of their body to move the ball other than their hands.During the
game player try to create goal scoring opportunities by individual control of the ball(dribbling) or
by passing the ball to their teammates and shooting the ball at the goal post guarded by the
goalkeeper, player could also attempt to regain possession of the ball by tackling the opponent in
possession of the ball but physical contact of between player are restricted.Football is a free
flowing game only stopped when the ball leaves the playing area or the referee stops the game
because of a breach of the rules.
The laws of the game do not have any required positions other than the goalkeeper but many
special positions have evolved over the years, there are mainly three categories such as the
striker whose main task is to score goals, the defender to prevent the opponents from scoring
goals and the midfielder who tries to keep possession of the ball to pass forward to the their
teammates.Player in these positions are referred to as outfielders to distinguish them from the
goalkeepers. These positions can be even more subdivided according to where player spend their
most time on the field, the ten outfielder could be arranged in any way which would decide how
the team would play whether it be more aggressive or defensive.
LAWS OF THE GAME

1) Field Set Up: The field is lined off with white paint to mark off boundaries and to make
certain sections for certain plays to be made, like a foul or penalty.
2) Ball: For major competitive fixtures, the spherical football should weight 410 to 460
grams at around size 5 or 6
3) Number of Players: Each team must have 11 players, 10 players and a Goalkeeper
4) The Player’s Equipment: Players must wear a team uniform with shin pads for protection
and cleats.
5) Corner Kick: When the ball is out of bounds of the goal line by the defending team, a
corner kick is give to the attacking team
6) The Goal Kick: When the ball is out of bonds of the goal by the attacking team, a goal
kick is given to the defending team
7) Determining the Winner of a Match: This is Come about the most goals Scored by a
team.
8) Offside: If an attacker receives a ball that is passed when he is in front of the defenders,
that is an offside.
9) Penalty Kick: Given when an attacking player is fouled in the penalty box.
10) Free Kick; Given when a player is fouled outside of the penalty area.
11) Throw In: Given a player if the opposing team plays the ball out of bounds.
12) The Assistant referees: They are the throw in, offside, corner or goal kick with
indication of their flag.
13) Handball: This is When the ball touches the players hand unintentionally, this gives the
opposing player a free kick or penalty
14) Referee: They regulate the game and blow the whistle if they see any foul play
15) Fouls: fouls are called when there is foul play, when the player tackles roughly, pull
shirts hit the player’s foot instead of the ball etc.
16) Ball in and out of play: ball is out of play when it completely crosses the boundary line.
17) Player’s Equipment, Players can’t wear anything that may cause harm to themselves or
others , like watches and earrings.
FIVE LAWS EXPLAINED

Field Set Up: The field is set up 125mx85m and has many lines and mark off points that
form squares, boundaries and boxes for plays to be made in any case of fouls etc. the
penalty area, corner points, center line are a few of many examples of markers that
indicate

Penalty Kick: The penalty is a result of a foul committed within the penalty box, the
penalty kick stands one player and the goalkeeper about 11 yards from one another. The
success of penalties is extremely high so when defending against it, it is not ideal. The
player can kick whenever the referee blows the whistle to do so

Free Kick: The free kick, when a player is fouled anywhere outside the box, he is given a
free kick. free kicks nearer to the penalty spot or goal area normally have opposing
players build a wall in an attempt to block. Free kicks that are further out normally have
the opposing players more spread out, marking other players to defend. Common causes
are mis challenges, late challenges, causing a player to trip and infringement.

Referee: There is only one referee per game. The referee sprints to keep up with players
to observe them, tries to not infringe in play, if he does, a drop ball would occur and the
referee would restart pla from where he was hit. The referee blows the whistle for fouls
committed, handballs, the restart of play and the start of a kick or penalty. When foul
play is committed, he can give a red or yellow card to the player. if two yellow cards are
given in the same game, the player is out leaving 10 players remaining. if given one and a
next one in the following game, the player would be suspended the next game. a red card
is a straight send off and a yellow is more so a warning,

Assistant Referee: There are two assistant referees in a game. They look and indicate
which team obtains the ball for a throw in after the ball is sent out the white boundary
length ward line. They also check for offsides and stand by the goal post when there is a
penalty to see whether the ball goes over the line. All the calls they make are displayed
by the raising of their red and yellow checkered flags.

PLANNING PHASE
● On our first day of discussion, the class had a keen interest in two different events. The
two events are Royal league which is a tournament based on football and the second
event is a scratch final event based on the field events in Track and Field.
● On the second day of the meeting, students were still indecisive on whether or not two
events should be done or one. Our teacher Mr. Birbal, facilitated us with explanations on
both events and gave us time to decide.
● At the third meeting, students decided that it is best to conduct the two tournaments so
that it allows for people to feel comfortable and participate in a tournament that they have
an interest in.
● Mr. Birbal introduced the various roles that students can fulfill as part of the organizing
committee for the both events. Students were given the opportunity to choose which role
that they wanted to undertake and our classmates voted if that student was capable of
executing that role. Mr. Birbal briefed students about the expectations of each role c

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The role that I was given in the Rodick Warner Royal League was a team manager. The role
involved having to organizing training sessions after school to help the working on the player
chemistry with each other, getting equipment for team to use during practice , motivating them to
come to practice and providing a coach with adequate skill to assist them in training.During
matches I had to guide the team to execute certain plays an make sure they were focus on the
task at hand.Due to the covid-19 protocol the players had to be socially distanced at any times it
was possible, they had to come to training with mask on and there hands was sensitized before
and after each session they had, thing like sharing of water and food was also prohibited.
TOURNAMENT DAY REPORT

My tournament day report starts at 12 pm , on May 2nd 2022 during the lunch period with five of
my classmates and I gathering at the pavilion getting the vests and equipment we were going to
use,to oversee the two matches as referees which were 2O vs 2L and 4O vs 4L.Two of my
classmate Jayden Lara and Josiah Hope along with me went to referrer the smaller of the two
games which was 2O vs 2L.This was my first time referring a match so walk across to the field
author explained to me what to do as a lineman. The captain of the two teams had a coin flip to
decide who was kicking off the game in which 2O won. The first started with little action the two
teams where playing at a moderate pace with both team having equal ball possession trying to
make goal scoring opportunities, but coming down to end of the first half with about two minutes
left Javed Alexander of 2L scored a goal and the sidelines erupted in cheers and celebrations an
students started running onto the field to celebrate with their classmates, during these
celebrations we had to rush to get student off of the field to resume the game which we did
quickly and successfully. The next few minutes of the game went on without any goals being
scored. After the one minute of half time Jayden lara and I switched of the field and the game
commenced with 2O kicking off the ball but the second was way different from the first half
because 2L was playing way more confident , they had more ball possession than 2O and player
of 2L where dribbling pass player more than passing the which cause them to conceded a goal
when a 2O defender tackled a 2O player an won the ball he then passed it toJosiah Carpette who
scored an equalizer at the sixth minute of the second half which was followed by a big sigh of
relief from all the 2O player. The players hurried to get the ball back to the kick off spot to try to
win the game against all odds, with only six minutes left 2O started to gain confidence from the
goal they just scored an started to challenging 2L more creating more goal opportunities with
many shoots on target, but 2L was saved many times by the there agile goalkeeper who saved
many shoots. Despite the confidents 2O gained, a 2L player interceded a pass that a 2O player
sent to the goalkeeper and scored the final goal a few seconds before the referee blew the final
whistle which caused the game to end with 2O having 1 goal and 2L having 2 goals. We then
recorded the goal scorer and went back to the pavilion to pack away the gear we used .
