April 4, 1968 - Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated

Caption - Dr Martin Luther King Jr. was fatally shot at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis,
Tennessee, while there to support the sanitation workers who had been on strike protesting
the death of two sanitation workers. The strike started on February 12, and Dr King was
assassinated on April 4 1968 at 6:01 p.m.

Ruth's 39-year-old Major League record.

Poet Countee Cullen married Yolande DuBois, daughter of social reformer W.E.B.
DuBois in one of the largest weddings of the Harlem Renaissance. They married in
April, and the wedding ended in October.

the marriage had dissolved.
