What I Need to Know

This module is designed and written with you in mind. It is here to help
you to used different methods in collecting data . The scope of this module
permits it to be used in many different learning situations. The language used
recognizes the diverse vocabulary level of students. Lessons are arranged in
the standard sequence of the course, but the order may be different from the
textbook that you are using.

The module is all about Collection of Data.

Based on the competency, this module will help you gather statistical
data. (M7SP- IVb-1). Specifically you will:

1. define the methods of collecting the data;

2. discuss the methods of collecting the data;
3. apply the methods of collecting data in real life.

Collection of Data

4
Have you ever wondered how the government identify the recipients of
Social Amelioration Program? How did the DSWD identify the grantees for
4P’s beneficiaries? These questions can be answered if we collect data.

What’s In

In the previous lesson, you have learned the different statistical

instruments used to gather data from one unit to another. So, before we’ll
proceed to our new lesson, answer first the activity below.

Activity 1: Match Me
Let’s Find Out:What are the statistical instruments?
Let’s Use These Materials: Mathematics notebook and pen.
Let’s Do it This Way: Match the definitions of statistical instruments in
Column A to its corresponding terms in Column B.
Write the letter of your answer in your Mathematics
notebook .Number 1 is done for you.

5
Great job! You did it. Proceed for more exciting activities.

What’s New

Consider this situation.

Amidst COVID19 pandemic in the country, the government

would like to know the number of recipients of the Social
Amelioration Program in the Municipality of Plaridel. The first
recipients consist of 20 individuals in the near barangay. But, the
government would like to know the number of recipients according
to gender.

After reading, can you tell right away the number of recipients
according to gender?

Where would you begin to solve this problem? Sit back, relax and
enjoy learning some of the methods in collecting the data.

What Is It

6
A collection of data is done after the desired population is known. In
conducting a study, the population or sample to be taken should be parallel to
the objective of the study.

Population refers to a set of people, animals, objects, measurements,

and events involved in statistical study wherein data are collected. The
members of the group selected from the population are known as the
sample.

It can be illustrated using a Venn diagram.

Going back to problem number 1, which of the methods presented

above is very useful in finding the number of recipients according to gender?

Problem 1

Amidst COVID19 pandemic in the country, the government would

like to know the number of recipients of the Social Amelioration Program
in the Municipality of Plaridel. The first recipients consist of 20 individuals
in the near barangay, but the government would like to know the number
of recipients according to gender.

10
The very useful method used to answer problem 1 is interview
because the government will conduct a personal interview in every household
to determine the gender of the first 20 recipients of Social Amelioration
Program in the Municipality of Plaridel.

Do you find the lesson interesting? Let’s have another

example.

Problem 2

Sarah wants to create a mathematical Model of the spread of Covid

19 virus in Region X. In order to do so, she coordinated with the
Department of Health and she requested a copy of the data of all Covid 19
cases in the said Region. What method of data gathering did Sarah use?

The very useful method used to answer problem 2 is registration

because Sarah will gather the data from the DOH to create a mathematical
model of the spread of Covid 19 virus in Region X.
