Matexil® DA-N

High temperature stable dispersing agent

Summary
Matexil® DA-N is a high performance dispersing agent, stable at high temperature upto 140oC and also stable
under acidic and alkaline dyeing conditions. It is most suitable for disperse, indigo and vat dyeing in batch and
continuous processes.

Advantages
 Clean bright dyeing.
 Clean machines - less downtime.
 Unaffected by high temperature.
 Better wet fastness.
 Eliminates oligomer problems both during dyeing and reduction clearing of dyed polyester.
 Excellent dispersion in vat and indigo pigment form.
 Improved solubility of high molecular and metal complex dyes.
 Improves flow properties of print paste prepared form tamarind gums.

Features
 Maintains dispersing efficiency at high temperatures.
 An excellent dispersing agent for polyester oligomer, minimising deposits on substrate and machine.
 Maintains dispersing efficiency in presence of high electrolyte concentrations and acidic to alkaline pH
conditions.
 Non-staining on polyester fibre.
 Effective at low concentrations.

Storage
Matexil® DA-N freezes at - 5°C, but recovers to the original liquid form when allowed to return gradually to
ambient room temperature before use.

Application
Cleaning the dyeing machine
Because it is such a good dispersing agent, when Matexil® DA-N is used for the first time, it may loosen
deposited disperse dye and oligomer which have built up from previous dyeing carried out with a less efficient
dispersing agent. It has been known for tar-like deposits, from machine heat exchangers for example, to spot
onto the first batch of yarn or fabric dyed with Matexil® DA-N.

It is therefore recommended that the machine be cleaned first, before any dyeing commences, with :-

Matexil® DA-N 2 to 4g/l

Solid sodium hydroxide 2 to 3g/l
Sodium hydrosulphite 1 to 3g/l

This liquor should be circulated for 20 to 30 min. at 120°C to 130°C and then cooled, dropped and the machine
thoroughly rinsed, before any dyeing commences.

Batch wise dyeing of polyester with disperses dyes

General guidelines may be given as shown below, but bulk experience should be the deciding factor e.g.
for heavy shades use 0.25g/l Matexil® DA-N
for medium shades use 0.50g/l Matexil® DA-N
for pale shades use 1.00g/l Matexil® DA-N

Guidelines for different types of machine are:

for circulating liquor 0.5 to 1.0g/l Matexil® DA-N
machines (yarn package and beam)
for jet machines use 0.25 to 0.5g/l Matexil® DA-N

Preparation of Naphthol Ground Shades

In azoic printing for West African styles, Matexil® DA-N improves the stability of the diazo linkage and of the
development baths. Its outstanding dispersing power maintains a colloidal solution in the developing bath and
prevents surface deposition. The colloidal solution is easily removed after treatment and results in improved rub
fastness when a base or fast colour salt is overprinted.
Matexil® DA-N is recommended at 1 to 4 g/l in the liquor for preparing the Naphthol solution by boiling with
caustic soda to maintain solution while padding fabric at 70°C.

Vat dyes and Indigo

In the pre-pigmentation processes, where substrate (yarn or fabric) is exposed to un-reduced vat dyes or Indigo
at high temperatures around 80°C, before the 'vatting' process with sodium hydroxide and sodium hydrosulphite,
an addition of
0.5 to 1 g/l Matexil® DA-N is beneficial.

Use of Matexil® DA-N in this manner is also useful in alkaline pre-pigmentation, before the addition of sodium
hydrosulphite to form the soluble leuco compound(s).

Printing
To improve the flow properties of print paste prepared using tamarind gums add 0.1 g / Kg of Matexil® DA-N to
stock paste.
