Dr. Shirley R. Steinberg is the Director and Chair of the Werklund Foundation Centre for Youth Leadership in Education, and Professor of Youth Studies at the University of Calgary. She is also the Director of the Paulo and Nita Freire International Project for Critical Pedagogy. An author and editor of over 35 books in critical literacy, critical pedagogy, urban and youth culture, and organizer of the Critical Pedagogical Congress, she is committed to a global community of transformative educators and community workers engaged in radical love, social justice, and the situating of power within social and cultural contexts. Welcome to our newest Chapman CES Faculty Associate.

Panel Discussants:
Dr. Dina Eletreby has been the Head of School for New Horizon Elementary School, Irvine for 7 years and an educator for over 20 years. She is an American Muslim of Egyptian descent who was raised in the two religiously and culturally different worlds of home and school. Her research focus includes the study of American Muslim identity as it relates to communities, families, and the schools that serve them. Shabbir Mansuri is the Founder/CEO of the Institute on Religion and Civic Values. In the K-12 area, the organization specializes in world history standards, textbook reviews, and teaching about world religions. Mr. Mansuri serves on several educational advisories and is part of the editorial board of the Religion & Education journal. He is a passionate speaker on religious liberty issues and he helps create consensus for greater religious literacy in our society. Dr. Muzammil Siddiqi currently works as an Educator and Religious Director of the Islamic Society of Orange County where he has served since 1981. He served as the President of the largest national Islamic organization, ISNA, from 1996 - 2000. Currently he is the Chairman of the Fiqh Council of North America. He also teaches at the Department of Religion at Chapman University, in Orange, California. Dr. Siddiqi lectures on Islam and interfaith dialogue in North America and abroad. He is the President of the Academy of Judaic Christian and Islamic Studies at UCLA.
