What Is literature?

One definition of literature is "imaginative or creative writing, especially of recognized

artistic value."
Literature Is a body of written works : the body of written works of a culture, language,
people or a period of time.
Literature can be defined as piece of writing that are valued as works of art, especially
poetry and drama.
Literature is anything that is printed, as long as it’s related to the ideas and feelings of
people, whether it is true, or just a product of one’s imagination.

That literature:
• helps us move beyond and probe beneath abstractions by providing us with concrete,
clear details
• Instead of talking about things, literature brings them to life for us by representing
experience, so that it becomes an experience for us one that engages our emotions, our
imagination and all our senses and intellect.
• The interpretation of science does not give us the deep understanding of objects that the
interpretation of poetry does; they appeal to limited faculties, and not to the whole person.
