9. Syntactic Linkage
Syntactic links This refers to the way in language in which words and phrases are arranged together to
form meaningful sentences.
Agreement (Agreement): This is the principle by which the elements in a sentence match each other
in terms of linguistic features such as gender, number, and person.
Government (Government): In linguistics, it Refers to the relationship between words in which one
word regulates or influences the form or meaning of another.
Number and person relations (Number and Person Relations): This includes how the language
arranges verbs and pronouns to match the number (singular or plural) and person (first, second, or
third) of the subject.
Syntactic linkage in English: It discusses the way in which words and phrases are arranged in English
sentences to form a precise and meaningful structure.
Number in English: This is the way in which English expresses quantity, both through nouns (singular
vs. plural) and verbs.
Gender in English: This relates to the way English handles gender in the use of pronouns, nouns, and
verbs.
Examples :
Example : "The teacher instructed (kata kerja) the students (objek) to complete their assignments
(objek)."
Number and person linkage (Hubungan Jumlah dan Orang):
Example: "He (orang kedua tunggal) writes (kata kerja tunggal) a letter every day."
