ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I would like to express my special thanks of gratitude to my teacher Pn.Zairulzana who gave me the
golden opportunity to do this wonderful project on the topic ecosystem and environmental
sustainability, which also helped me in doing a lot of research and i came to know about so many new
things I am really thankful to my teacher. She also helped me understanding more about the objective
of the project and guided me until the end of the project.
Secondly i would also like to thank my parents, family and friends who helped me a lot in finalizing
this project within the limited time frame despite having some obstacles to finish the project. This
project took me exactly 5 weeks to finish but im grateful that im able to finish the project
successfully. During that time, I learnt a lot about plants and how to take care of them. Last but not
least, im happy that Im be able to achieve the objective of this project.

ABSTRACT
This experiment mainly focus on reducing food waste in Malaysia which is increasing day by day
without us realising especially during this pandemic. This problem can be solved by recycling the
kitchen wastes and food to produce natural fertilisers. Every day, Malaysians produce enough food
waste to fill seven Olympic-sized swimming pools, according to the Solid Waste Management and
Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp). This means that out of the 38,000 tonnes of domestic waste
daily, 45% – or 17,000 tonnes – are food waste, out of which around 4,080 tonnes are still edible. This
is enough to feed some three million people three meals per day. It is a very worrying situation
because 37.6% of the food waste that we throw everyday are good and edible food. To conclude
everything, this project is very important to be conducted not only for the students but also other
people to reduce the amount of food waste especially amongst the community in Malaysia.

INTRODUCTION
This project can helps increase the awareness of the importance of the food waste amongst the
community and reduce the amount of food waste especially in Malaysia. It helps people to realise how
important it is to use the food waste as fertilisers rather than just throw the food away eventhough the
food is still edible while others are starving. By making the food waste as fertilisers, it can benefits us
in many ways such as boost the growth of the plant and save the cost of buying the fertilisers.
Objective
To recycle kitchen and food waste which have exceeded expiry dates to produce natural fertiliser or
growth booster for crops.
Problem Statement
The amount of food waste in our country is very concerning right now. Though a lot of people are
starving, the statistic of the food waste still rising. This mainly happens because people doesn’t take
this matter seriously as the effects of the food waste are unnoticeable unless you are alert about this
issue. One of the iniative is, to recycle all the food wastes and turn them into fertiliser for plants.

DISCUSSION
This orgsanic fertiliser is mainly made by onion peel, egg shells and tea leaf. These ingredients have
their own benefits to the plant. The onion peel can increase the plant’s disease resistance, growth,
strong stems, and productivity. This onion peel fertiliser will also be rich in Calcium, Iron,
Magnesium, and Copper. Next, the eggshells contain such an abundance of calcium that they can be
used almost like lime, though you would need a lot of eggshells to make a measurable impact. The tea
leaf also has its own benefit which is high in nitrogen, and as a bonus, the leaves can ward off pests
and insects. This is also good for houseplants, so add old tea leaves to their water. So, using all these
ingredients is a wise idea to produce an effective fertiliser for plants. This fertiliser is mainly used for
fruit and vegetable plants. By using this method to create our very own fertiliser, we can very much
save for the cost to grow plants and most importantly help decreasing the amount of food waste in our
country.

CONCLUSION
As a responsible citizen, we must prevent food waste in our daily lives because this habit can cause
many impacts. One of the biggest impact is it can lead to the emission of greenhouse gases. This issue
is very worrying in our country and it has to be taken seriously from now on. By recycling food waste,
we are not only get to make our own fertiliser, but we can also help our country and the world to
create a better future for our generations. This method also can help encourage people to plant more
trees as it has a very low cost to begin with. To concluode everything, we have to be smart in using
our wastes especially food waste. In order to have a healthy world.
