Chapter 1

Introduction

According to Melvin Leyva on (May 08, 2019). Along with the development, the

advancement of technology is growing very rapidly and it can be seen from the increasing

human dependence on the technology and is also crucial, thus the quality of information must

always be improved to the next level to benefit and have a considerable impact on the

development of any institution or an agency for critical decision making. Business owners take

advantage of what technology can offer to increase business efficiency. This capstone project,

titled “Gym Management System” is designed to digitally transform the operations of the gym.

The system will electronically streamline the management of members, trainers, expenses,

payment, and other operations of the gym.

Based on Gym Management System Using CakePHP (2021), without technological

intervention, gym owners and managers would rely on manual methods to streamline their

operations. There are several common problems that can arise in a gym management system but

the main problem is the manual process of registration. The manual method is perceived to be

inefficient and prone to human errors. The gym members also would not obtain optimal

satisfaction with the services rendered by the gym especially in their payment processes. There is

an obvious need for an IT-based solution to support the whole operation of the gym.

Through implementing a gym management system with advanced features like online

registration processing, attendance tracking, and managing schedule. Along with these features,

the system improves the accuracy and reliability, as well as provide real-time visibility into

attendance data and analytics. This can include using QR code identification technology, such as

scanning the QR code, to ensure that members are accurately identified and tracked.

Review of Related Literature and Studies

This chapter discussed related literature and studies of local and foreign which

are presented within the following paragraphs to clarify the objective of the study and to address

the research problems, related work, and theories by other authors.

Local Literature

Every day, many people enter gyms, pressuring the management to accommodate their

needs. Because customer preferences and requirements are constantly changing and developing,

businesses that can use innovative methods and creative approaches will be able to compete in

the market and continue to satisfy customers. Success in high-performance environments

requires an understanding of the various IS and working styles. Technology plays a big role in

the life cycle of information systems, starting with database (DB) technology, which is referred

to as a collection of data or a set of facts in an organized manner (De Leon & Tinsay, 2021).

Foreign Literature

According to Shakoor, Abbas, Mehdi, Hussain, Ali (2018). This paper presents a design

for managing online databases and transactions. Information about employees, members,

facilities, payroll, receipts, and items can be managed via the design system. Also, it offers both

basic and complex search capabilities so that you may quickly and effectively look through the

documents. This system has a graphical user interface and offers data saving and report

production (GUI). This system is supposed to provide easy access to the resources of the gym to

its members while empowering the management process of the gym.

Methodology

In this chapter, the researcher will use the SDLC methodology to create a detailed plan

that helps keep the researchers on track, making the process smooth, effective, and manageable

in developing a Gym Management System. SDLC aims to minimise project risks through

planning so that software meets customer expectations during production and beyond.
