Video Clip #5: Summary Report on Reading and Assessing Scholarly Journal Articles

A scholarly journal is a primary source report on the technical terminology employed. Peer-reviewed
articles are similar to academic articles in that they are evaluated by at least three professionals who determine
when to publish them. We need to look at the front cover, the journal's website, and Ulrich's website to
determine if it has been peer-reviewed.
A journal article contains seven parts: the title, abstract, literature review, goal, method, findings or
results, discussion, conclusion, and implications. The research will summarize all of the findings and make
suggestions in this section. References are where scholars show where their papers or sources come from,
and they contribute to the strength of our work.
Qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research are the three categories of research.
Quantitative research is defined as the investigation, testing, describing, and accessing of phenomena. This
approach employs a large number of samples, a standardized measure, scales, statistical analysis, and a high
level of generalizability, as well as validity and reliability. Qualitative research focuses on occurrences in
natural settings, making it simple to offer a comprehensive grasp of the research topic.
The production of a scale or measure, as well as the assessment of its reliability or validity, is referred
to as measurement creation research. Meta-analysis examines and assesses past research by analyzing
hypotheses with statistics. A conceptual or theoretical framework gives a framework for comprehending a
topic of interest. A literature review investigates other research in order to synthesize the findings. A criticism
is a type of writing in which the author expresses their point of view on a particular topic.
To read a research article, we should follow four stages. The initial stage is to decide on the primary
points of view, abstract, and keywords. Following our reading, we should consider the significance of the
piece as well as the approaches employed. What changes may be made to the outcome? Are the results
applicable to our situation? What practical implications do these discoveries have? Aside from that, we should
be aware of citation formats such as APA, MLA, and Chicago.
