Subanon ethnic community. Rizal learned that the
Subanons were not as insular and barbaric as he had
previously thought. Instead, he discovered that they

impressed by their straightforwardness, honesty,
and diligence. Through his interactions with them,
Rizal learned that the Subanons were not less
human than other races and that it was important
to preserve their way of life.
