    The Lord of the Rings star, who is a goodwill ambassador for the UN children's
    organisation Unicef, also has met with Ukraine's President, and has praised the strength

    Following heavy rain, a tragedy has been narrowly averted at a collapsed gold mine in the
    Democratic Republic of Congo after nine miners have emerged from the rubble.

    bare hands to clear away debris.
