Proud People in the Bible

1. Defiant Pharaoh
Hapi was the god of the Nile. God turned the Nile to blood showing his
authority.
Heqet was a frog god in charge of fertility and protection of homes +
pregnant women. They would wear amulets of frogs for this purpose. God sent frogs
in the 2nd plague. And in the last plague, he entered their homes and slayed their
first born children.

2. Self-Righteous Saul
In trying to protect the purity of Judaism, Saul killed people that spread
the simple message of forgiveness through Christ. Clearly, Saul had a very corrupt
and twisted understanding of God’s love. So, God had to blind Saul physically, so
that he could understand what true righteousness was.

3. Entitled Jonah
Jonah was not happy with God’s mercy towards the Ninevites. He wanted the
them to be punished and didn’t believe they deserved God’s love. They were so
wicked! How could they deserve forgiveness and grace?

4. Power Hungry Eve

Eve wanted to be at the same level as God and didn’t trust God’s authority.
When Satan tempted Eve, it was easy for her to be led astray because she wasn’t
submissive to God’s leadership and she lusted for power.

5 & 6 . Controlling King Saul

King Saul is a perfect example of trying to fix a situation in our own
strength. When believers cannot patiently wait for God, they run the risk of doing
things outside of God’s will.
Then King Saul plotted to have David killed by sending him to war out of envy
and spite.

7. Judgemental Michal (wife of David)

His wife Michal despised him for the way he worshipped God. She was only
concerned with how the situation looked to others, not with what God thought.

8. Over Confident Peter

Jesus basically said that some of the disciples would fall away. However,
Peter was sure Jesus wasn’t talking about him. In prideful confidence, Peter
stated: “Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will.”

2. Boastful = Mapagmataas

3. Self Righteous = makasarili o Nag-aakalang siya ay mabuti kaysa iba

 4. Controlling = Maniphayo o Mapagmanipulang

5. Power-Hungry = Mapamilit (Assertive) / Desperado para sa kapangyarihan

6. Perfectionist = Perpeksyonisto/a (lalake/babae)

7. People-pleaser = Plastik

8. Judgmental = Pamimintas

9. Rebellious = Mapanghimagsik / Nagrerebelde

10. Ungrateful = Walang utang na loob / Nakaiinis
