Conflict and Controversies

CODE OF KALANTIAW

The Code of Kalantiaw was written in 1913 containing penalties and laws, as Jose
E. Marco explained in his historical novel "Las Antiguas Leyendes de la Isla de Negros".
This conspiracy thought that the more we investigate our previous history, the more
stories we may encounter. As I watched the video, I have researched a lot about this
topic. I have found that in some observations, the Code of Kalantiaw is not considered
one of the Philippine histories due to a lack of historical evidence. There are no written or
pictorial records from that period in Philippine history. It tells me that we should always
rely on the credible source. Some evidence could not always point us to the truth we
wanted. However, if this false evidence still guides us to the right path, it enables us to
reduce numerous speculated facts and lead us to the final truth.

FIRST CATHOLIC MASS TAKE PLACE IN THE PHILIPPINES

This debate over the exact location of the first mass is still ongoing to this day. It
was previously thought to be on the island of Limasawa in the province of Leyte. Still,
some historians believe there was an error and that the correct location is Butuan, not
Limasawa. However, Pigafetta, who was present during that time, is actually in Limasawa
in Leyte. His book is the only living witness to what happened on that crucial day. In my
opinion, we need to trust the perspective that has the most accurate and detailed
information. Researching will be competent since it is the only way to reveal the answer
to the question.
CAVITE MUNITY

Seeing the video reminds me how the Spanish Government was discourteous
against our ancestors. This Cavite Munity happened in 1872, and based on what I
researched recently, this event was said to be a significant factor in the awakening of
nationalism among the Filipinos leading to the Philippine Revolution. This event serves
as a reference of revelation and prudence for Filipinos who want to express their views
against the Government and other organizations mistreating our country and its people.
We must understand when and how to express our opinions effectively and safely, as we
may be falsely accused, as the GOMBURZA Priests were during that period.

JOSE RIZAL RETRACTION

Jose Rizal's supposed retraction, comprising a reversal of his statements against

the Roman Catholic religion, this event became a popular topic in a debate when we were
in Junior High School. In my opinion, even if Jose Rizal converted to Catholicism, his
accomplishments still provide and prepare the way for future generations to fight back
and overthrow the Spanish regime. Whether or not Rizal retracts, I, as a Filipino, continue
to trust in him and recognize him as a national hero. Although we may not fully appreciate
Rizal's existence, our country can at least reflect on the struggles and sacrifices made by
our heroes for us to be recognized as human beings with equal rights and fairness. The
viewer's decision on whether or not Rizal retracted is totally up to them.

CRY OF REBELLION

The Cry of Pugad Lawin happened in August 1896, and they are a group that
aspires for our country to be independent. It has historical significance because it recalls
that the Filipino has finally embraced freedom and independence's lasting worth.
However, these controversies occur, based on some books, the Balintawak was most
frequently stated as the location of the Cry of Pugad Lawin. Thankfully for the historians,
they still attempted to search about the facts that happened during this event and validate
their data. For me, it doesn't matter to me where the Cry of Rebellion occurred. Wherever
it happens, I am thankful they became our reasons for our equal rights and liberty.
