ANTONIO PIGAFETTA REFLECTION

Antonio Pigafetta was a key player in one of the most amazing world exploration
trips, and he was an Italian seafarer and geographer as well as an assistant to Magellan who made
him relevant to the journey. The relevance of his own venture, fundamentally lies in the fact that
he took part in the first globe circumnavigation, between 1519 and 1522, and he was able to
accomplish it after the murder of Ferdinand Magellan, leaving a detailed description of the
journey in the Report of the first trip around the world, a lost manuscript that was rescued later,
in 1797, and today is considered one of the most important documentary evidence relating the
geographical discoveries of the Sixteenth Century. Pigafetta tells how, being in Barcelona in
1519, he heard about Magellan’s expedition, and being wishful to learn about the world, he
asked for and obtained permission to join in the voyage.

Despite its propensity to integrate incredible precision, Pigafetta 's record is the
absolute most significant source of circumnavigation travel. He took notes day by day. The
travelogue of Pigafetta is one of the most relevant sources of pre-colonial Philippines
investigation. Antonio Pigafetta, indeed, witnessed all those that had happened which in part
gave him the authority of the subject. He contributed a lot to the expedition with his life. This is
absolutely the kind of document information that students could benefit much especially those
who are studying History like me at the moment and not just for students but for those
researchers who are making historical analyses. The document is detailed that it includes
illustrations of nations, peoples, commodities, and even the languages that were spoken during
that time of their circumnavigation.

The story makes it more interesting because of the explorer's bravery, same as what
they did when they arrived in Patagonia, where they spent winter months in exposed loneliness.
The chronicle of Pigafetta was one of the most cited documents by historians who wished to
study the precolonial Philippines. As one of the earliest written accounts, Pigafetta was seen as a
credible source for a period, which was prior unchronicled and undocumented. The document
reveals several insights not just into the character of the Philippines during the pre-colonial
period, but also into how the fresh eyes of the European regard a deeply unfamiliar terrain,
environment, people, and culture. This kind of key source is a big help to the history of the
Philippines because it has a deeper understanding of the past, they give insight into how
historical figures understood or internalized what they experienced, and their place of
significance in history.

CAVITE MUTINY REFLECTION

Cavite Mutiny is known to be the uprising and revolution of troops and workers at
Cavite where Filipino workers fought against Spanish troops due to Spanish repression. As a
current Filipino citizen, I do believe that the significance of the Cavite in modern times lies in
our own sense of Nationalism. These uprisings and movements served as one of the first
uprisings of Filipinos against Spanish repression, even though they know that Spain would have
more forces, they still fought until their end resulting in the deaths of three priests Burgos,
Gomez, and Zamora. I do believe that their execution is unjustifiable since I also believe that the
Spanish side of the whole story is false. These events are used as a source of inspiration and
caution for us Filipinos who would like to express our own opinion against the Government and
other organizations that are mistreating our country and countrymen. we must know when how
to voice out our opinions effectively and safely since we might also be falsely accused like the
Three priests during that era. To sum it all up, I do believe that the Cavite Mutiny is relevant in
the current society due to its effects on our beliefs, morals, and rights.

I believe that Cavite Mutiny is a Grand Conspiracy that deals with the Spanish
version or Spanish perspective. Even though I know that the abolition of the privileges enjoyed
by the laborers of the Cavite Arsenal of exemption from the tribute was the cause of the
insurrection but if we analyze or review it carefully we must look to the bigger views of contents
we must not focus on just only one argument that Cavite mutiny is just because of labor issue it
is just a simple and weak argument that leads to a widespread uprising of the Filipinos. The
Spanish clergy connected the priest to the mutiny was part of a conspiracy to stifle the movement
of the secular priest who desired to have their own parishes instead of being assistants to the
regular friars. Filipinos during the time were active participants and responded to what they
deemed as injustices lastly, the execution of GOMBURZA was a blunder on the part of the
Spanish government, for the action severed the ill feelings of the Filipinos and the event inspired
Filipino patriots to call for reforms and eventually independence.

The road to independence was rough and tough, many patriots named and unnamed shed their
blood to attain independence. Our forefathers suffered enough we should not forget that before
we came across to victory. As we enjoy our freedom, may we be more historically aware of our
past to have a better future ahead of us. The Cavite Mutiny is interesting, because there are a
number of different contemporary accounts of it, and there are a number of different views as to
its importance in the subsequent history of the Philipines.
