Teaching children is exciting and fun. I read them a story about “Juan Tamad “, Juan
Tamad (Filipino for "Lazy John") is a character in Philippine folklore noteworthy for
extreme laziness. He is usually portrayed as a child, although in some interpretations,
he is said to be a young man. Which the moral story is: “Laziness can get you nowhere
if you want something, you need to work hard for it”.

sure, children were enjoying so much the story I read . them because every time I stop
or pause in reading they already want to know what’s next in the story, they always
asking question about Juan tamad, after I read the story for them I let them gather their
realization and question about the story and then after answering their questions about
the story its my turn to asking them a question to make sure that they are really
participating and listening , and it turns out that they really understand the story base
from their answer to my questions, I ask them about their opinions about Juan tamad,
they have different opinions and perception , in the last part I ask them “ is Juan tamad
really lazy?” and one children answered, Maybe Juan Tamad is not really lazy at all.
Perhaps he just stops and rests for a while after a long day’s work under the tiring heat
of the sun. Maybe the guava tree in is the nearest to him and finds its shade a nice spot
to relax. He feels tired and to rest is not a requirement but a natural thing to do. He
knows when to stop after too much work. Perhaps this is the value Filipinos have
forgotten all along, when in the middle of frantic tasks in our daily jobs and routines, our
bodies and minds get tired yet we don’t spend time to rest. Juan, more than just a lazy
image, can be an image of, restfulness or a siesta for the soul.

I have so much fun to be with them, just sharing a story they will learn something about
it and realized that children would participate or listen the story, if the teacher seems to
be good in telling and delivering story the children would enjoy and listen carefully to the
story.

OBSERVATION REPORT

This observation paper is about the story “Juan Tamad” taken by Ma’am Lyka Zora.
First, she introduces what the story is all about, and then she shows picture of the main
character to the children, she let the children look first who is Juan Tamad and the other
character and then then one of the children says that the story is familiar to her because
she thinks that she heard it once, after that she begun to read the story.
Based on my observations Ma’am lyka zora was a good story teller because she
listened, interact and engage with her audience which is the children. She bridges the
gap between her and her audience to make the children understand that story telling is
conversational.
All the kids were participating and listening while ma’am Lyka Zora is reading, the kids
were all active and know what to answer. I also observed that they were very interested
about the story because they all communicate by asking questions about the story, they
were eager to learn more about the story.
In the last part Ma’am Lyka Zora asked one of them if Juan Tamad is really lazy or
“Tamad” according to the story, and it turns out that they have different opinions and I
think it was great because they were really thinking in what they were going to answer,
they have their own opinions about the story.
