FORMWORK Formwork
NATIONAL SEMINAR SERIES
NOVEMBER 2013 Safety, Theory and Practice
Perth 19 November | Adelaide 22 November | Sydney 25 November
Brisbane 27 November | Melbourne 29 November

F ormwork has a major impact on the quality, cost

and time to build concrete structures. In addition,
its sound design and construction is essential to ensure
safety during construction. Unfortunately, in Australia
there is little or no up-to date guidance on formwork
planning, design and construction. Regrettably, there has
also been some significant formwork failures and loss of
life.
Currently, the requirements for formwork design
and testing, set out in Section 4 and Appendix A of AS
3610-1995, were developed in the late 1980s. Although
all the other information in AS 3610-1995 has been
updated and superseded by AS 3610.1-2010, there are no
plans to update the requirements for design and testing The focus of this series of seminars is to provide the
in the foreseeable future. Exasperating this situation, the industry with up to date guidance on formwork planning,
construction industry has seen significant change and design and construction. Much of the information
advancements since AS 3610 was first published presented will be published by the Concrete Institute of
Australia in a Formwork Handbook and a pre-publication
draft of the Formwork Handbook will be provided to
attendees. The speakers will present both the theory and
real-world examples of the topics covered. Further to this,
the seminar will also include a presentation of formwork
used on some significant and interesting projects.
