Abstract

This report paper is from Awash international bank chilalo branch that is found in Assela town that I
have placed for practical attachment, the report is talk about the back ground of the awash international
bank, its mission, vision, objectives, the core values of the bank and the main activity and customer of the
bank. Awash bank was established February 13,1995 by 486 founding share holder. and the initial capital
of the bank when starting the job are 24.2 million birr and the bank provides full-fledged international
banking service and the major service of the bank are mobilizing of deposit , provision of credit service,
international banking service, and other. awash bank is a financial institution that establish by share
holders for profit oriented it gives services for individuals, corporations, governments, communities, and
for other customers and the main customer of the bank are individuals, insurance companies,
nongovernment organization and others. The awash international bank vision are to be the strongest and
most preferred bank of the people and its mission are to provide innovative, efficient, competitive,
diversified and profitable banking service at domestic and international levels also the objective of the
bank is to meet the needs of the emerging private sector for quality and dependable domestic and
international banking service.
In recent time the bank have around 272 branches all over the country
The branch that I done my practice is established in December 2013 AC and the employers are done their
job in good way in order to increase their customer and profitability of the bank.

1.1. Background of the company
1.1.1. Establishment

Awash international bank was established by 486 founding shareholders with a paid-up capital of birr
24.2 million and started banking operations on February 13,1995.moreover ,as of march 2016 the number
of shareholders and its paid-up capital increased to over 3,700 and birr 2.2 billion respectively. Awash
bank is the first private bank established in Ethiopia. And it have around 272 branches all over the
country. And it also have above 1.5 million customers in the country in recent time and above six
thousand one hundred permanent employers are done in the bank. And the system that the bank uses to
manage and record the overall activity of the bank is bank fusion.

Awash international bank provides full-fledged international banking services, including facilitation of
import and export transaction, handling in ward and out ward money transfer services, purchase and sell
of foreign currencies, and providing deposit services in hard currencies.

And all Awash international bank branches are its own grades it can be category in to four groups depend
on their profitability

 The first group are those branches that have to get the highest profit at the end of the year.
 The second group are those branches that have to get the medium profit at the end of the
year.
 The third group are those branches that have to get lower profit at the end of the year.
 the fourth group are those branches that have to get no profit or very low profit at the end of
the year

The major services of the bank, among others, are:

 Mobilization of deposits
 Provision of credit services
 International banking services
 Safe deposit services
 Money transfer services

Awash bank chilalo branch that I take my practice that is found in Arsi zone Assela town was established
on December 2013 A.C. the bank started their job by fourteen employers those employers are one
manager, one accountant, one auditor, one cashier, four customer service officer, one sells officer, one
secretary and four gourds.
1.1.2. Location

Awash international bank is now a day there are many branches allover the country. I made my practice
(job) in Arsi zone Assela town. Awash international bank have two branches in Assela town. those
branches are Awash bank assela branch and Awash bank chilalo branch. From these two branches I work
my practice on Awash bank chilalo branches it is found in Assela town kebele 05 around two hundred meter from
Assela buss station to the left and one hundred meter from Assela Insurance company to the right.

Awash bank in response to both external and internal factors, aims to transform from a leading Ethiopian
bank in to an East African financial power house and one of the Top Ten east African private banks by
the end of 2025. Consequently AIB conducted a review of its business and operating model and
developed an overall strategy blue print and transformation roadmap. Hence it is high time to implement
the smart strategic initiatives written in transformation roadmap. The Implementation phase requires
utmost efforts from all functional units of the bank as it embraces key areas of business and operating
model transformation.

 Provide information to interested users to enable them to make bank decisions,
 Maintain record of the bank transaction as well as different files of its customer,
 Calculate payroll of the employees
 Guidance service to interested users in business area
 Accepting deposits , giving withdrawal and loan service as well
 Reconciliation of its account to the head office

 Opening new account.
 Accepting customer in a good faith.
 Asking what they want and tell the information they need.
 Showing how withdraw and deposit money for new customer.
 And writing all the information in with draw and deposit paper for those who do not write or the
customer that doesn’t information to write their information.

First I submit my acceptance letter to the manager of awash international bank chilalo branch Ato Hasen.
then he accept my question and he told me the material and protocol needed to work in the bank after
that I fulfill what the manager told me then I work in the bank for forty five days as the same as an
employee of the bank at all of the day means eight hour per day. In my training time I try to see the
overall activity of each department simply by looking and when customer is come to the bank I accept in
a good way and tell the information they need as I can and also write on their deposit or withdrawal
receipt voucher for those people who do not write

2.1. the problem I observed on the job I was assigned

I made my practice in Awash international bank chilalo branch in my training time

I try to observe the overall activity of the bank besides I also observe the major

problems of the bank that are decrease the branch profitability.

 Unavailability of automatic teller machine in the branch.


 Frequent interruption of network.
 Inadequate printer and cash counting machine.
 The bank has shortage of employers.
 The resent place the bank done their job is ground plus one building these is also not good to
their customer.
 The bank can give service for small number customers per day.
 From those groups the bank that I work my job is category under group four because of very
low profitability register at the end of each year.
 All the above problem are the problem that I observe in my training time and those problem are
the main reason that decrease the number of customer and profitability of the bank.

2.2. Strengths observed on the job on which I was assigned

 Even if the bank has the above major problem it have also its own strength

I observe the following strength of the bank during my training time


 The employers are done their jobs in a good way.
 The employers are very experienced and well educated.
 Satisfying their employers by giving annual bonus.
 They come on time (punctuality) and they help each other by any thing.
 Starting from the gourd all employers are accepting their customer in a good way and give
enough information to their customer.
 Also employers are integrity and a good relationship with their customer.
 Good coordination and communication within the staff member.
 Even if the bank are established before three years ago and category under group four they do
not incur a loss in each year.
 All the above information are the strength of the bank I observe during my training time in
awash international bank chilalo branch in Arsi zone assela town.

Summery and conclusion

3.1. Summary of the overall observation

Awash international bank is first opened in February 13,1995 and the first private bank established in
Ethiopia and it provide full- fledged international banking service including facilitation of import and
export transaction, handling inward and outward money transfer service, purchase and sell of foreign
currencies and providing deposit service in hard currency and it gives banking service for individual,
governments, non government organization, and for others. Awash international bank has around 272
branches in the country and above 1.5 million customers in the country and around six thousand one
hundred permanent employers are done in the bank. The system that uses to record it’s the overall
activities are bank fusion and the bank main objectives are to expanding and diversify commertial
banking service in response to the growing demand of customer and insist. Awash bank chilalo branch is
established in December 2013 Ac that is found in Assela town in this branch I made my practice for
fourty five days at that time I observe the overall activity and duties of the bank.

3.2. Conclusion of main findings


Finally during my practice time in awash international bank I try to see the overall activity of the
main activity of the bank and the main activity of the bank and, its customer how it works on so on
during my training time in awash bank chilalo branch I se the banks strength and weakness the branch
was established before three year ago and it have very small a number of customers and it categories
under grade four because this the bank must be done their job in good way by solving their problems
and to further going and to change their grades.

4. Possible solution/Recommendation for problem observed above(based on accounting principles


and standards)
The above major problem of the bank can be the main reason to decrease the number of customer
and profitability of the bank because of this the branch must be solve those problems through the
following way
1. If the branch has open automatic teller machine(ATM)the customer will be satisfied
2. The branch must change the system that uses for the control of the overall activity of the bank
from bank fusion to other modern and fastest system to satisfy their customer
3. The branch must increase the number of works to satisfy its customer
4. The branch will be must to choose the best place for increase its customer
5. By fulfilling the above ideas the branch must increase their number customer and profitability
