What are the objectives of sustainability?
What is sustainability ?
Sustainability refers to the ability to meet the needs of the
present generation without compromising the ability of future
generations to meet their own needs.

In other words, sustainability involves using resources and

managing the environment in a way that supports long-term
economic, social, and environmental well-being.
What is sustainability ?
Sustainable practices seek to balance the needs of the planet, people,
and profit, often referred to as the "triple bottom line."

This means that sustainability is not just about protecting the

environment, but also ensuring that society is just and equitable and
that economic prosperity is achieved in a way that does not harm the
planet or future generations.
Pillars of sustainability

The pillars of sustainability, also known as the three dimensions

of sustainability, are social, economic, and environmental
sustainability.
These three pillars are interconnected
Pillars of sustainability

Environmental sustainability: This pillar focuses on

preserving and protecting the natural environment and natural
resources.
Environmental sustainability aims to reduce the negative
impact of human activities on the planet and to promote the
responsible use of resources.
Pillars of sustainability

Social sustainability: This pillar focuses on promoting social well-

being, equity, and justice for all members of society. Social
sustainability aims to ensure that all people have access to basic needs
such as food, water, shelter, education, healthcare, and employment,
and that they are able to live in safe and supportive communities.
Pillars of sustainability

Economic sustainability: This pillar focuses on creating economic

systems that are viable in the long term and that support the well-being
of society and the environment.
Economic sustainability aims to balance economic growth with social
and environmental considerations, and to promote responsible
consumption and production patterns.
