Foreword
This document (CEN/TR 115-3:2009) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 10 “Lifts,
escalators and moving walks”, the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR.

Introduction
This guide has been prepared to allow the user to compare the former standard EN 115:1995, including
amendments A1 and A2, with the revision EN 115-1:2008.

The revision of the standard was mandated by CEN with reference to the 10-year updating of European
Standards and to bring the standard in line with EN 414 in terms of structure and content.

The revision of EN 115 on this basis has resulted in a total restructuring of the document in line with the rules
in EN 414 and the determination of safety requirements has been reviewed based upon hazard analysis and
risk assessment.

Additionally safety requirements related exclusively to the machine are contained in Clause 5 of the revised
standard. Other safety requirements are detailed in the annexes, some of which are normative and others
informative.

1 Scope
This technical report applies to escalators and moving walks built in accordance with EN 115-1:2008.

2 Correlation between EN 115:1995 and EN 115-1:2008

This Technical Report is presented in the form of two tables. Table 1 provides a correlation between
EN 115:1995, including amendments A1:1998 and A2:2004, and EN 115-1:2008 based upon the
chronological clause references of EN 115. Table 2 provides a similar correlation but using EN 115-1:2008 as
the base document for comparison.

Each clause is cross-referenced to its equivalent clause and the table illustrates the status of the text or
requirement. Guidance is given on whether the clause has remained unchanged, is modified, is new or has
been deleted.

Where appropriate a short explanation is given in the "Remarks" column to highlight changes and new
requirements contained in the revision of EN 115-1:2008.
