Primary purpose of the role


To provide a range of bail intervention options for clients across the State in order to reduce numbers in
custody.

Key accountabilities
 Undertake assessment of a young person’s suitability for bail placement, providing a bail facilitation role
and bail advice.
 Liaise with Police, Juvenile Detention Centres, FACS Helpline, families and community networks to
resolve bail placement options and support for juveniles, ensuring the young person is aware of the Bail
Assistance Line (BAL) service, their rights and responsibilities and expectations involved should
placement in the community be assessed as suitable.
 Analyse information and complex issues, and formulate detailed responses and recommendations, often
within short timeframes and challenging circumstances.
 Assist in the development of community care placements as alternatives to custodial care
 Maintain liaison with government and community organisations providing a range of bail accommodation
and support options for juvenile offenders.
 Maintain statistical and database information
 Act in accordance with all relevant legislation and agency policies, including the Code of Conduct and
Information Security.

 Understanding the sensitive political environment within which the agency operates and balancing
stakeholder expectations.
 Adopting a flexible approach to work in order to adapt quickly to changing work demands and priorities
 Working with victims of crime and assessing disadvantaged and complex young people (and their
families) who face issues of mental health, family dysfunction, alcohol and other drug misuse, intellectual
disability, cognitive impairment, lack of education/employment success, anti-social peers and violence.
