KOCHI: Kochi is one among the 100 cities

selected worldwide for sustainable development
under the Mobilise Your City (MYC) programme,
a global climate initiative for integrated urban
mobility planning.

Only three cities in India have been selected for

development under the initiative, the others
being Nagpur and Ahmedabad. It is one among
the 15 international transport initiatives of the
UN Global Climate Action Agenda (GCAA).

Limited (KMRL) managing director Elias George
received the MYC membership certificate from
Annie Guillemot, Senator and president of
SYTRAL, at a function here on Thursday.

The MYC programme would facilitate

development with technical assistance and
grants worth 3.5 million Euros, delegated to
AFD, the French Development Agency.

Mobilise Your City supports local governments

in developing countries to plan sustainable
urban mobility to develop more inclusive,
liveable and economically efficient cities and
reduce emission of green house gases.

An initiative combining urban mobility

objectives and climate considerations, it aims at
providing solutions in a fully integrated
manner, analysing different modes of
transportation within the urban fabric, with the
objective of providing its inhabitants with long
term, sustainable, adequate, reliable and cost-
efficient transportation opportunities.

The MYC would assist Kochi in implementing

low carbon transit solutions with project-based
approach at city level, and policy-based
strategies at national level.

The Union Ministry of Urban Development had

proposed Unified Metropolitan Transport
Authority-Kochi as the implementation agency
for MYC initiatives in Kochi.

Kochi Corporation had submitted the

application for MYC last year with KMRL as the
supporting technical expert in preparation of
application.
