HERSCHEY’S CHOCOLATE COMPANY

INTRODUCTION

The Hershey Company is an American multinational company and one of the largest chocolate

manufacturers in the world. It was founded by Milton S. Hershey in 1894 as a subsidiary of his Lancaster

Caramel Company. The company is headquartered in Hershey, Pennsylvania, which is also home to

Hershey Park and Hershey's Chocolate World. The company produces a variety of chocolate products,

such as Hershey's Milk Chocolate, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Kit Kat, Twizzlers and Kisses. It also

manufactures baked products, such as cookies and cakes, and sells beverages like milkshakes. The

company has a long history of social responsibility and philanthropy, supporting causes such as

education, health and environmental sustainability.

Hershey's exports its products to many countries around the world, especially in Asia, Latin America,

Middle East, Europe, and Africa. According to Statista, Hershey's generated about 1.1 billion U.S. dollars

from its international sales in 2020. The company also has manufacturing facilities in Brazil, Canada,

China, India, Malaysia and Mexico. Hershey's aims to expand its global presence and reach new

consumers with its delicious and high-quality products.

MARKETING STRATEGY

Hershey’s applies a micro-marketing concept to its businesses, which means that it markets

precise products to small target audiences, modifying its products to meet these audiences’

specific demands. Hershey aims to give its customers a larger range option by branding their

products at higher prices. Although the Corporation generally did not use consumer media

advertising such as newspaper and magazine ads, or radio and television commercials, it did

employ a variety of techniques to publicize itself. Hershey Chocolate used its advertising dollars
to promote its products to the stores and outlets that would sell Hershey’s products. Hershey

also believed in advertising its products where consumers could purchase them and created

elaborate and often whimsical store window sets and in-store product displays that featured

product in bountiful arrangements.
