Haunted House

Everyone says that the old house at the end of the road is haunted. It used to be the residence of a
rich family but now none of them would stay there. So the house is vacant and uncared for. The
compound is filled with over-grown weed and grass.

My friend Amit and I decided to find out once and for all if what people said was true. So one
evening, we bravely entered the house and prepared to spend the night there. We brought along a
powerful torchlight, two sleeping-bags, some food and drinks, and a portable stereo set.

The early part of the night was no trouble at all. We sat on our sleeping-bags and listened to our
favourite music.

Twelve midnight came. We felt a bit sleepy. So we switched off the stereo set and crawled into our
sleeping-bags. However, sleep was impossible. There seemed to be a heavy atmosphere hanging
around us. The darkness was oppressive and there was a strange soft querulous noise coming from
upstairs.

We dared not go up to investigate the noise. So we lay quietly in our sleeping-bags and hoped that
the noise would go away. But it would not go away.

Actually it got louder and louder. Then it sounded like someone moaning. Jack hurried out of his
sleeping-bags and switched on the torchlight. We could see nothing except the walls of the empty
living room we were in.

Suddenly there was a loud crash from upstairs and the moans turned to screams. We screamed too
and ran out of the house as fast as we could, leaving behind everything that we had brought. The
hair on the back of my head stood on end for hours afterwards.

We never dared to go back into the house, not even in the daytime. My uncle had to go
and retrieve the things we had left behind there.

So, is the house haunted? All I can say is that it depends on your belief.
Alien interaction

It was a dark and stormy night. The whole of sleepy town Ajaynagar was covered by dark clouds.
Amit was returning home from his school which is around two kilometres from his home. All of a
sudden, it started raining cats and dogs. To avoid the downpour, he stood underneath a big banyan
tree in the corner of the big field, as there is no shelter nearby.

Suddenly he saw a strange object, very big in size, appearing from the thick dark cloud above. He
immediately felt that it is like an U.F.O. that he has seen in many movies. In no time it landed on the
big field around 100 meters away from him. There was a burst of blue florescent light coming out
from the bottom of the saucer. Three strange looking creatures, approximately about a meter in
height appeared from the light. It bears resemblance with the aliens that he had seen in various
fictional movies. Amit was astonished to find that they can communicate in his language. He was
petrified to now their plan. Their plan was to take all the trees away from earth. Not wasting a
moment, Amit ran towards the police chowki nearby forgetting about the heavy downpour. By the
time he has reached the police chowki, the policemen were already boarding their jeeps, as they
have also witnessed the strange phenomenon. We they reached the field they found that those
aliens pointed out to a tree. An eerie blue light shot out from their hands making a tree vanish. The
policemen tried to scare those aliens by shooting blank. But it was all in vain.

The officer-in-charge was a fat gentleman. With a frightened look on his face, he took a direct shot at
those aliens. But to everyone’s surprise, one of them pointed his finger at him. To everyone’s
amazement, the officer-in-charge became as thin as a stick. Everybody laughed. Suddenly, a young
policeman, quite thin, ran towards them, shouting at the top of his shrill voice. Those aliens got the
fright of their lives and vanished along with their spaceship. All were delighted. They all were elated
to find that they had saved their planet except the Officer –in- charge who was left fiddling with his
pants in utter dismay.
Horror

It was a dark and stormy night... As always in the evenings I was watching horror movies and
drinking my favourite hot chocolate. Unfortunately, I forgot to close the front door, so I went to do
that. Then suddenly, I heard some strange noise. It was probably comming from the attic above. At
first I thought my two cats were chasing after mice because they often do things like that, but I
found them that they were in the kitchen laying round. I didn`t know what to do. I was alone in
home; my parents were in work.

I decided to take something heavy and check this. I took a stick and a torch slowly began to move
towards the attic with pounding heart. Stairs creaked terribly, what drove me goosebumps. I was
scared because I didn't know what to expect. Wind? Burglar? Or maybe it was only my imagination?
With each step I was more and more afraid. I told myself that it's only my imagination, nothing
terrible. I opened the door. Lights were out but in the flickering light of my torch I could see what is
inside... And? There was nothing... Not even a mouse. Scared, but with a smile on my face I decided
to return to the room. Suddenly from behind a pile old boxes flew few bats. I almost had a heart
attack. I've never seen those little flying creatures before from so close.

I came downstairs and sat on chair and started to laugh and cry at the same time. That was the last
time when I watched horror movies alone in home.
A stitch in time saves nine

Once there was a farmer in a village called Rahim. Unlike other farmers in the village he was very
idle. He had a few plots of land which he has inherited. But he did not plough them well regularly. He
did not sow seeds in time. So, he could not reap good crops even on a bumper year. As a result, he
was always in need of money.

Rahim had a small kitchen garden near his house. One day he saw that the fencing around the
garden was broken. Procrastination sets in. He said to himself,” I shall repair the fence tomorrow.”
But as usual, he totally forgot it on the next day. Some days passed by, he did not repair the broken
fence.

One day he sat idly by the side of the house. He saw some goats entering the garden through the
broken fence. He called his wife Ayesha to drive the goats from the garden. Ayesha was cooking
inside, the kitchen. She came out and ran into the garden to drive away the goats. Meanwhile, a
stray dog was waiting outside the kitchen for food.

When the farmer’s wife went out the dog entered the kitchen and spoiled some of the food. The
farmer hurried into the kitchen with a stick in his hand. As he hurled the stick towards the dog, it hit
his five-year-old son who was playing near the kitchen. It injured him very badly. All these troubles
took place because of the broken fence. Rahim understood that a stitch in time saves nine. So, we
should not put off our work for tomorrow.
Accident

A few days ago I returned from Delhi where I visited my cousin. He has just got his driving licence
and has just started to drive on his own without an instructor sitting together with him in the car.
Unfortunately, we had two accidents during my 4-day stay. Luckily no one was injured, but the car
was partly damaged, especially for the second time. I'll tell you the story of the 2nd accident in brief

We turned off the highway and entered a country road leading to a farm house. We were driving at
a speed of nearly 40 km/h and saw a railway bridge ahead of us. There was a  road narrowing under
the bridge we had to pass. We were expected to reduce speed in the vicinity of the bridge, but my
brother didn't notice the sign since it hung almost behind the tree. We had to  yield the road to a big
truck moving towards us but didn't do it due my brother's failure to notice the sign. When we saw
the truck moving, we abruptly pressed the breaks and my brother turned the steering to the
right thinking was a lane there, but actually that was the place for one-way traffic and as a result
we bumped into the sidewalk right under the bridge and car stopped after the collision. Luckily we
didn't collide with the truck itself. The right tyre burst, the disc bent, but the biggest problem was
the front steering column, which broke into two parts. However, there was a car service right near
the place of our accident and they helped us repair the car to get back home.
