DRAWBACKS OF TOURISM

Kiệt: As we already know, tourism comes with a lot of advantages, such as:
economic growths, employment opportunities, promote global connection… But
on the other hand, tourism also comes with tremendous drawbacks. Two of the
most notable disadvantages of tourism are: environmental problems and loss of
cultural identity.

Đạt: The significant increase in tourists is one factor contributing to this

environmental erosion. The more tourists there are the more automobiles, buses,
trains, and other vehicles on the road and in use, all of which result in higher
carbon emissions. Tourists also need places to stay, airports for planes to land in
and ports for boats to depart from. Natural areas are often cleared to make way
for this construction, displacing wildlife and ruining marshes or forests. A lot of
tourism occurs in coastal areas, and building hotels and resorts right along the
coastline can have major impacts on the ocean and surrounding reefs due to
erosion and sand runoff.

Hà: Beside environmental erosion, tourism can also cause intense use of
resources. Tourists, like all people, use resources such as water and energy.
Tourism, however, may worsen the issue in many well-known tourist areas where
resources are already scarce. When traveling, people often use more water than
they do at home, and washing laundry can require a lot of water and energy.
Large hotels, resorts, and their swimming pools also demand a lot of power for
cooling or heating.

Khoa: Beside environmental problems, tourism can also cause erosion in

local culture. The local culture may change as a result of being exposed to a
completely new way of life, especially among the younger people of the
community. They may start to imitate and adopt the cultures of the visitors,
drifting away from their own culture's traditions and practices. If the traditions
are objected by the young, soon or later, the culture will eventually die and then
disappear.
