AMBULANCE CONTINGENCY PLAN DURING VEHICLE AND EQUIPMENT BREAKDOWN

DRIVERS RESPONSIBILITY

The ambulance driver is responsible in case of ambulance or equipment breakdown during

transfer of patient, the responsible is to stay with the vehicle and ensure that the vehicle and patient is
secured or safe and follows all breakdown procedures.

NOTIFICATION PROCEDURE
In the event of immediate emergency call for back up

The driver should call the driver/nurse to communicate the

situation, provide exact location, assessment of the situation,
status of the patient, and record the time of incident until
back up service arrive

For equipment breakdown, identify the equipment and

immediately report to the Head of Office/ GSO for possible
replacement/ repair

SAFETY PROCEDURES

In the event of disabled ambulance stopped on the travelled portion or shoulder of a roadway, and the
ambulance driver should:

 Immediately turn on vehicle hazard warning signals

 Set up early warning device
 Call for back up immediately
