1. Our tree gives only a few examples of ESP course. Complete the branches at the top, by adding
others courses.
2. What differences would you expect to find between an EAP course for doctors? In what ways do
you think occupational and academic needs differ?
3. All language teaching should be bassed on leaner needs. Thus is theory the is no
difference,between ESP and General English Teaching, in practice,however,there is a great deal
of difference. How for would you agree with this statement? What differences, either in theory
or in practice do you think there are?

2. English for Academic (EAP)

a. EAP is a branch of ESP in that the teaching content is matched to the requirements of the
learners.
b. EAP students are usually higher education students.
c. Learners need to learn English in order to succeed in their academic careers.
d. EAP teaching is task based, using the types of academic task commonly found in higher
education
e. EAP courses is the close attention that is paid to the learners’ aims and what they are
working on, studying or planning to study
f. Students need to attend the class.

English for Occupational Purposes (EOP)

a. EOP is a branch of ESP and cover situation in which learners are studying English for work
related reasons.
b. EOP learners are likely to be adults.
c. Learners need to learn English in order to improve their job performance.
 d. EOP was also seen as an opportunity for personal development among those who have a
long-term goal to improve English communication skills of work and life.
e. They may have not succeed as a language learner in the past.
f. Students maybe reluctant to attend the class.

3. I agree with the statement of there is no difference between ESP and General English Teaching.
It is because, the basic English Teaching are usually using the ESP teaching. I think there is no
differences of between ESP and General English, because when they teach the General English
using the theory of ESp.
