CREATIVE PROJECT SUMMARY

The world is a large and vast place so why not explore the dangers to women's mental

health and not only on a small scale but on a global scale, such as global statistics and

information on domestic violence against women and the impact it has on women's health. For

my project I chose to go with option D which is the creative project where I decided to display

global statistics on domestic violence to spread awareness that violence can and does not only

occur within the U.S. but around the world. I think the significance of this topic is not only

informative but important in our society as we may lack direct information relating these subjects

together. Domestic violence can be described as a pervasive and complex issue that affects

millions of women worldwide. It refers to a pattern of coercive and abusive behaviors used by

one partner to gain and maintain power and control over the other partner “These behaviors can

take many forms, including physical, sexual, emotional, financial, and digital abuse” (Villines,

22 C.E.) . Domestic violence can have serious and long-lasting effects on the physical and

mental health of survivors, as well as their social and economic well-being.

My personal interest in this topic may simply be to inform others as I believe that

domestic violence is something that many women undergo but may choose to not speak up, or in

many cases may just be unaware of what may be considered domestic violence. I wanted to

choose this topic also because not only have I witnessed domestic violence but have also seen the

impacts it holds on the individual experiencing it. Domestic violence is something that everyone

should be informed of as stated by the National Domestic Violence Hotline “An average of 24

people per minute are victims of rape, physical violence or stalking by an intimate partner in the

United States — more than 12 million women and men over the course of a single year.”
(Domestic Violence Statistics, n.d.) which may only prove to show how large of a scale this

phenomenon really is and can only provide the question of, if this information only depicts the

United States, then what are the rates around the entire world? Domestic violence is a critical

issue that affects women of all ages, races, and socioeconomic backgrounds. While being seen as

a deeply personal and sensitive topic that can be difficult to discuss for many, but is important to

bring attention to and raise awareness about its impact on women's health. I am interested in

exploring this topic because I want to better understand the factors that contribute to domestic

violence and the ways in which it affects survivors. I also hope in the future to learn more about

effective strategies for preventing and addressing domestic violence.

My project which depicts and gives stats and information on the most easily accessible

places around the globe was intended to show the viewer just how large of a scale domestic

violence is and also show the rate at which it happens which can also help those who have

experienced any sort of intimate partner violence realize that they are not alone. I would like my

project to impact my audience to be aware of domestic violence and know that it can definitely

happen to those who you'd least expect it to and to spread that awareness and information

learned to promote the idea of speaking up as many might find the act to be shameful and hard to

talk about. Another impact which I hope my project can make is not only spreading awareness to

victims and those who may have seen IPV, but to also spread the impacts IPV has on women to

those such as the possible perpetrators of the incident and explain what their actions may cause

to another person's well-being.
