On a Chilly Day

Today the weather outside is way too cold! It is

snowing and windy. My mom is making a big pot of chili
today. The recipe has been in our family for three
generations. My mom is the best cook in the world! Her
chili is the greatest. The recipe calls for tomatoes, pepper,
onions, and ground beef. There is also a secret ingredient,
and Mom won’t tell me what it is until I grow up. That
secret ingredient is what makes our family’s chili better
than anybody else’s.
While the chili is cooking on the stove, I help my mom
make a bread. It is so much fun! I knead the dough on the
table. It feels warm and soft in my hands and smells
delicious. After the dough rises, we will bake it in the oven
until it is golden brown.
The ground is covered in snow when we sit down for
dinner. The spicy chili and buttery bread are perfect foods
for this cold winter night. Now all we need is dessert, and
hot cocoa can’t be beat! Winter is the best!
