DAY 2
The vessel M.T Clean Sea (call sign AMOK 1)was on a voyage from Rotterdam to Dubai. The owners of the vessel
were eager that the voyage be successful and uneventful. After all, the freight market was not looking very good
and the future did not look very bright. They were keen that the charterers get a good impression of the vessel. The
BP vetting inspector was going to be on board at Dubai. Capt. C. Klein was confident that he had a good ship but
in today’s ISM age there was always a chance of making a “paper” mistake even though the operations were
perfect. He had heard that this particular BP inspector was a stickler for documentation and so he advised his
shipboard team about it.
The following were the sequence of events. You are required to fill up the Oil Record Book Part 1
You may refer to the IOPP certificate for necessary details.
You may refer to MARPOL book (pages 153 onwards) for code details.
Please, note that for every degree change in the temp. of oil, the specific gravity of oil changes by 0.00062 deg.
Centigrade.

9th July The Duty officer discharged water from Stb’d slop tank between 0930hrs to 1300hrs. This was
carried out after allowing settling for 48hrs. The ullage of total mixture was 4.6m and the oil/water
interface was detected at ullage of 5.6m. Cargo pump No. 3 was used to discharge the water at a
rate of 500m3 / hr for 1hr and then changed over to stripper pump at a rate of 40m 3 / hr for 1hr and
stopped since the interface had reached 1.3m sounding (ullage 9.3m). the valves were closed
thereafter and confirmed closed.
11th July The Chief engineer found that the sludge tanks were getting full. Since he had no more place he
transferred 65.1m3 of sludge (62.80m3 from Bilge sep. oil Tank – retained 1.5m3 , 1.2m3 from F.O
sludge Tank – retained nil & 1.1m3 from L.O sludge tank – retained nil) into the Port cargo slop
tank, which contained 74.2m3 initially.
13th July The following were the soundings of the sludge tanks taken for the weekly retention entry. F.O
drain Tk: 0.45m3; FO Sludge Tk: 0.8m3; LO Sludge Tk: 0.2m3; Scav box Drain Tk: 0.3m3; Stuff
Box L.O drain tank 0.6m3; Waste oil Serv. Tk No (1) 1.65m3; Waste oil Serv. Tk No (2) 0.67m3 Bilge
Sep. Oil Tk: 1.5m3.
14th July Transferred 2.0m3 of bilge water from port bilge well to bilge holding tank via primary bilge tank
between 1600-1700hrs.

15th July Pumped out 8.0m3 of bilge water from bilge tank using 15ppm equipment between 0930hrs –
1200hrs. Bilge tank soundings initial 17m3 , final 09m3. Negligible amount of oil separated during
the OWS operation.
17th July Tank soundings as taken in the morning prior arrival at Dubai.
F.O drain Tk: 0.55m3; FO Sludge Tk: 1.2m3; LO Sludge Tk: 0.25m3; Scav box drain Tk: 0.45m3;
Stuff box L.O drain Tk: 0.7m3; Waste oil Serv. Tk No (1) 1.60m3; Waste oil Serv. Tk No (2) 0.66m3;
LO drain Tk: 0.4m3; Bilge sep. oil Tk: 1.5m3.
Vessel arrived and discharged the entire slop tank contents to the reception facilities from 1230hrs
– 1715hrs. A receipt for the same was record by the Chief Officer at 1750hrs. Cargo tank survey
was completed and OBQ determined to be 47 MTs.
18th July Completed bunkering operations at 0200hrs. Received 1060 MTs of IFO 180 Cst as per ship’s
figures. However, there was a dispute and the barge claimed that 1104 MTs was delivered. Finally
the Chief engineer signed for 1085 MTs. The fuel oil was taken into the forward bunker tank which
already had 20 MTs of the same grade.
18th July Between 0900hrs – 0930hrs in the morning record 35drums of 200liters each of M/E cylinder oil
CLO50M.
18th July Tested 15ppm monitor alarm & automatic stopping device function in the presence of port state
inspector.
18th July Ship sailed out at 1800hrs. Waste oil tank Serv. tanks 1 heating opened and evaporation started.
19th July Transferred 7000liters of M/E cylinder oil from drums into cylinder oil storage tank between
1030hrs – 1400hrs. Total ROB in the cylinder oil tank 9000liters (Sp. Gravity of oil at 15 C – 0.94)
(oil temp. 30 C).
19th July Transferred 35m3 of fuel oil from forward bunker tank to fuel oil settling tank.
19th July Waste oil Serv. tank No. 1 sounding observed reduced to 1.0m3 due to water evaporation 0.3m3
Burnt in incinerator between 0900hrs – 1500hrs.
19th July Transferred 0.5m3 from F.O sludge tank to waste oil serv. tank. F.O sludge tank final sounding:
0.8m3.
