Physcial Layer: LIN 1.3 versus LIN 2.x

What is the difference between LIN 1.3 and LIN 2.x?


– The transmitter specification is different:
• For LIN 2.x all system constraints can be in their worst case at the very same
time,
• whereas for LIN 1.3 all system constraints cannot go to their worst case at
same time.
– The receiver specification is equal.

Hence, LIN 2.x provides a better LIN transmission reliability than LIN
1.3.
– This does not mean a LIN 1.3 transmitter has a bad transmission
reliability; it is just not as good as a LIN 2.x transmitter. Actually, so far we
have not got any negative feedback from our customers about the
transmission reliability of the TJA1020.

Typical LIN Transceiver Circuitry (1)
- VBAT

The buffer capacitor C1 depends on the maximum supply current of the


LIN ECU, the minimum cranking pulse voltage and the maximum cranking
pulse time.

The buffer capacitor C2 should be placed close to the VBAT pin. A typical
value for C2 is 68nF.
