Local Loopback Test In order to confirm the T1 connectivity at the site, a local loopback should be performed with RMT from the furthest point possible at
the site, (preferable the RJ-45 connections at the NIU), back toward the NodeB.

Locate the One of the URC responsibilities is to act as a CSU for the NodeB and T1 equipment. The T1
Controller lines enter the NodeB frame at the hatch plate (top) pass through to the IOU (Input Ouput
Unit) (bottom left corner) and terminate to the URC (left most card).

APPENDIX B: VERIFY IMA GROUP STATUS

Overview In order to establish IP connectivity with the OMC, the NodeB must have established an ATM
connection with the ATM switch. The following procedure may be performed with RMT to
confirm that ATM connectivity has been established.

If the Integration Technician has already been able to ping the NodeB, this procedure is not
necessary, but may be performed as a troubleshooting step if necessary.

Verify IMA Status The following steps are performed with RMT to confirm that Inverse Multiplexing over ATM
(IMA) is Operational between the ATM switch and the NodeB.

Step Action
1 Verify that the T1’s have been physically connected from the NIUs to the NodeB.
2 From the RMT Main Menu select Status →IMA Status
3 Verify the IMA and ATM Status as shown below.

If the IMA Status is… Then

…”Operational” The IMA group is in-service and the
NodeB should be pingable.
…not “Operational” …the IMA group is out of service
and the T-1 connectivity from the
Node-B to the ATM switch should be
verified.

If the ATM Status for each equipped Then….

T1 is…
…”Active” …the T1 is actively part of the IMA
group.
…”Not in Group” …the T1 may/or may not be in
service, but is not in the IMA group.
Troubleshoot connectivity from the
Node-B to the ATM switch for the
specific T-1.
