WHAT’S NEW

1. The story is saddening.  After realizing how sorrowful the story is, I could feel the characters’
grief for the loss of their loved one.
2. Jake is Max’s dog, his best friend.  He is in a state of loneliness because his owner, Max, died.
3. I figured out Jake’s identity through the phrases “kneel down onto the carpet” and “tucks back
his long, floppy ears”.
4. Max is Jake’s owner and best friend, and Martha’s partner I suppose.  He died due to a sickness.
5. I believe that a dog is a man’s best friend because once a dog gets comfortable to its owner, it
always goes with its owner.  Just like the story of Jake and Max, they went through places and
did things together.  Having a best friend dog is incomparable because of the attachment and
love a dog only can give.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES

1.I would treat my dog just like how I treat myself. I will feed him , give him a shelter n give him a comfy
dog bed , play with him etc. I would treat him like he's the other half of me I would treat him as a
member of my family coz I love him. I will love him forever.
2. Pythagoreans long ago believed that animals experience the same range of emotions as humans
(Coates 1998), and current research provides compelling evidence that at least some animals likely feel
a full range of emotions, including fear, joy, happiness, shame, embarrassment, resentment, jealousy,
rage, anger, love.
