Reflection
I had learn much knowledge after I read through journal article “HR and analytics: why
HR is set to fail the big data challenge”. One of the knowledge I learned from this article is
analytics. Analytics is a discipline to organise, analyse, and understand of increasing amount
of data being generated by contemporary societies. Analytics is a must capability for HR
profession, a tool for creating value from people, and a pathway to broadening the strategic
influence of HR function. However, the development of HR analytics is being hampered by
lack of understanding analytical thinking by profession. So, HR profession need to wise up to
both the potential and pitfalls of analytics.
Next, I learn about big data and theorising HR analytics. Big data is anything that is too
large for typical database tools to be able to capture, store, manage, and analyse. This data held
in HRIS typically composed of information on the workers who are hired. Besides that, HR
professionals need to develop a strategic understanding of how people contribute to success of
their organization.
I also learn about barriers and alternatives of successful HR analytics adoption. The
barriers of successful HR analytics adoption is Silo mentality, organizational hierarchy, and
the failure of penetrating ideas of HR profession. The alternatives of successful HR analytics
adoption is engagement of HR and the importance of academic.
Through this journal article, I know more about analytics. Analytics play an important
role as we can use the data of analytics to predict what may happened in the future so that we
can make preparation earlier in order to overcome the difficulties.
