Alternate ACESYS V8.0 3

1. Introduction

1.1 Purpose
This manual explains the functions of the ECS/ACESYS V8 Alternate Faceplate
functions for ECS/ControlCenter V8.

1.2 Intended audience

This manual is relevant for the daily users of the system such as plant operators.
The focus of the manual is therefore the “use” of the system, rather than the
configuration, commissioning or maintenance of the system.

1.3 How to use this manual

The manual serves as a user guide to get familiar with the faceplate of the
Alternate with interactive graphic objects. The first part includes the general
concepts and terms related to the Alternate. The second part explains the usage
of Alternate Faceplate. The third part explains about the Dynamics status and the
explanation for the status text.

2. General Description

2.1 Alternate
The sequencer is intended to auto start and load of up to 10 compressors.

Basically the sequencer will start/stop compressors (auto start) and load/unload
the compressors based on an output from a PID in the range 0-100%. This PID
output is converted to a number of compressors to be loaded

The operator selects the compressors that will be available to the sequencer by
tacking them in the faceplate. Increasing/decreasing the number of active
compressors is conducted following a priority. The priority can be selected to
follow a manual priority entered by the operator, or an automatic priority
based on the actual running hours for the compressor motor. Summering of
operation hours is carried out by the compressor sequence block, when the load
request is set for the specific compressor.

The manual priority is entered as numbers between 1 and 10 where 1 is the

highest priority. The numbers does not have to be in sequence. The sequencer
will simply arrange the compressors according to the numeric value of the manual
priority (i.e. a manual priority for 3 compressors can be C1= 3, C2 = 2, C3 = 6
this will result the following priority: C2, C1, C3 (C2 = highest priority)

In automatic priority the compressor with the lowest hour count will become the
highest priority.

A priority change will also take place; if a compressor is lost by the result of a
fault or if a compressor is selected or deselected

Only compressors that are auto started and unit OK will participate in the priority.

The maximum number of compressors that is allowed to run simultaneously is

parameterized at the function block in the PLC (NoOfCom).

To protect the MCC/MDB against overload the sequencer will only allow one
compressor to start at the time. A delay can be set from the faceplate. The delay
is always used both when loading and unloading.

When stopping a compressor the compressor will be unloaded, but the auto start
request will remain high a time selected from the faceplate. This delay is to avoid
rapid start/stop of the compressor.

The sequencer works together with the normal group control. The compressors
must be selected in the faceplate of the sequencer and then started by the group.
If a full stop is wanted the group can be stopped in the normal way. But besides
this it is also possible to start and stop the compressors by selecting / deselecting
them in the sequencer faceplate, after an “operator select / deselect” the
operator is prompted and has to confirm the action. (This ensures a 2 step
command before start/stop).

2.2 Compressor Sequence
The Compressor Sequence will evaluate the need for starting/stopping and
load/unload compressors based on:

 Compressor status
 Selected operation form
 Operating hours
 Actual pressure
 Pressure set point

3. Dynamic Symbol
Various industrial controller symbol can use depends on the needs.

4. Alternate Faceplate
ECS/ACESYS Faceplates are divided into tabs. To give an overview the tabs will
be shown in the following sections. Please refer to the “ACESYS V8.0 – User
Manual –Generic” for additional information.

4.1 Tab: Status

From the status tab the overall setpoint input and actual setpoint status can be
monitored and the unit can be controlled:

In the following table parameters from the above faceplate will be explained:

1 not be part of the start sequence.

Unit Status Status of the individual compressor

2

Manual selected start order (only relevant when Manual

Manual Priority
Priority is selected, see Ref.9)
3

Actual operation hours for each compressor. The

Operating Hours operation hours is used to calculate the Automatic
4 Compressor Sequence.

Automatic Based on operation hours order (only relevant when

5 Sequence operating hours Priority is selected, , see Ref.9)

Manual Sequence Based on selected sequence.

6

The progress bar will indicate the number of

Actual Sequence
7 compressors loaded.

This parameter is an input to the block linked to the

output from the PID. The output from the PID will be
CV from PID converted from 0-100%. 0-NoOfCom, where NoOfCom
8 is the input indication the number of compressors to be
controlled.

When the automatic compressor sequence is selected

the order will be validated by comparing the actual
Priority Change running hours for each motor. The priority change is a
9 parameter deciding how often this check has to be
carried out.
