CHAPTER 6

CONTINGENCIES OF TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

1. Define contingency.

A contingency is the chance occurrence that a future event is likely to

cause a negative impact on an organization or person. It is a condition or a

probable future event occurring by chance, deliberately or not. In addition, its

occurrence and the resulting effects will necessitate special or extraordinary

measures to be implemented.

2. What is situational contingency?

Situational contingency theory, also known as situational leadership,

states that every situation that requires leadership is different and requires a

specific type of leader. The favorability of a situation depends on how much

influence and power you have as a leader.

3. What is environmental contingency?

The production of an organized and coordinated course of action to be

followed in the case of some accident, disaster or occurrence threatening an

ecosystem and the human health or natural resources within it.

4. Describe the leader-follower relation.

The leaders and followers’ relationship is a key aspect of organizational

culture. When people think about leadership, they generally think about leaders

as people who are in charge and make decisions. But leaders are more than

that. They are people who understand and support the needs of their followers.

The leaders and followers’ relationship is crucial for any team. It can be

defined as the relationship between a person who leads and the people they

lead. In addition, the leader-follower relationship reflects how a leader and his

followers perceive each other and interact with one another at work.

5. What are the things that can influence the effectiveness of a transformational

leader?

Several variables can affect a transformative leader's effectiveness. The

following are some fundamental components that might impact their

effectiveness: Characteristics of followers include charisma and vision,

credibility and trust, intellectual stimulation, individual consideration,
